WSP is initiating a search for an Early Career Mechanical Engineer (Overhead Transmission Lines) for their Fort Mill, South Carolina office. The role involves being part of the Power Delivery Carolina Line Team and contributing to a growing organization that meets client objectives and solves challenges. Requirements

  • Actively enrolled in an accredited Mechanical Engineering or related, Undergraduate program with an anticipated graduation date of May 2026 or later.
  • Demonstrated interest in Mechanical Engineering, or related field, and have a strong desire to advance skills related to WSP’s work and projects.
  • Competent interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.
  • 0-1 years of experience
  • Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, spreadsheets, technology, and tools.
  • Authorization to work in the United States.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
  • Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Engineer in Training Certification.
  • Familiarity with discipline-specific design software (i.e., MicroStation, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, ArcGIS)
  • Prior internship related to the degree of study and the specific engineering discipline.
  • A member of and/or actively participate in local professional practice organizations.
  • Minimum 2.75 Grade Point Average (GPA)
  • Ideal coursework includes structural analysis, concrete, steel, soils, foundations, and surveying.
  • Attention to detail, time management, and organizational skills will be critical for the successful completion of tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Involved in all aspects of transmission line design for new lines, relocations, upgrades, and fiber optic additions.
  • Support a variety of engineering tasks with the goal to develop technical, social, and ethical skills.
  • Learn basic principles of Civil/Structural/Mechanical Engineering.
  • Assist with project research, field work, and preliminary design calculations and analysis.
  • Support preparation of final design plans, special provisions, and cost estimates.
  • Assist in collecting and maintaining project documentation.
  • Complete training on assigned tasks.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
