About The Position

SLR Consulting (Canada) is seeking an Early Career Environmental Scientist / Engineer in Whitehorse to join their team. This role is crucial for achieving the company's goal of delivering environmental and sustainability services. The position involves executing and leading programs related to the assessment, monitoring, management, and remediation of contaminated sites. The day-to-day activities will vary, with opportunities to lead and support different aspects of projects at various urban and remote sites, including oil and gas facilities, commercial and industrial properties, and government-owned sites. The role will also involve assisting the project manager with planning, budgeting, coordinating, and executing projects throughout their full lifecycle.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a degree or a technical diploma in environmental science, engineering, geology, hydrogeology, or environmental related studies
  • Passion for fieldwork and availability to work away from home, potentially for up to 2 weeks at a time on occasion.
  • Knowledge and practical application of health & safety requirements unique to oil and gas facilities, construction sites, subsurface investigations, and contaminated sites
  • Ability to work independently, in small teams, and in remote locations, and ability to adapt to variable conditions and resources.
  • Valid driver’s license for travel to job sites

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in contaminated site work, including but not limited to environmental site assessments, soil and groundwater sampling, and remediation programs, a considerable asset
  • Professional status or eligibility for professional status with a professional organization (P.Eng., P.Geo., P.Ag., E.I.T., G.I.T., P.Tech, etc.) is an asset

Responsibilities

  • Participating in all facets of environmental or contaminated site projects including Phase I and II Environmental Site Assessments, and remediation and long-term monitoring programs
  • Leading fieldwork programs involving sampling, monitoring, and remediation of soil, groundwater, soil vapour, sediment and surface water
  • Supporting project planning, coordination, reporting, and budget tracking
  • Preparing project-specific health and safety plan
  • Assisting with technical reporting and financial proposal preparation
