About The Position

The EA I - Lunch/Playground Duty position is responsible for supervising children in the cafeteria and/or on the playground to ensure a safe environment. This role involves problem-solving with students, administering first aid when necessary, and maintaining a respectful working and learning environment. The position requires effective communication with students, parents, and school personnel from diverse backgrounds and may involve working outdoors or in the school cafeteria. The employee will encounter students with emotional problems or hostile attitudes.

Requirements

  • Ability to supervise students in a fair, firm, consistent, non-confrontational manner and respect confidential information.
  • Enjoy working with Elementary school students to solve problems.
  • Good communication and leadership skills.
  • Flexible and willing to do a variety of jobs to meet deadlines and complete all required training.
  • Experience working with children.
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • Medic First Aid Card certification.
  • Ability to read English.
  • Ability to write clear and concise communications in English.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Ability to apply common sense to carry out detailed, but basic, written or oral instructions in English.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, supervisor(s), staff, students, parents and community.
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.

Nice To Haves

  • Ability to communicate with Spanish speaking students and adults preferred.
  • Experience working with at-risk youth preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assure safety of children in the cafeteria and/or on the playground.
  • Provide first aid when necessary.
  • Facilitate conflict resolution and problem-solve with students.
  • Notify principal of any existing safety hazards, including maintenance needed on playground.
  • Handle confidential matters in an appropriate manner.
  • Cultivate and model a respectful working and learning environment.
  • Effectively work and communicate with students, parents, and school personnel from diverse cultures or backgrounds in English, Spanish, or other languages related to the student population.
  • Work harmoniously with coworkers, supervisor(s), staff, students, parents, and community.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
