About The Position

The E-Waste Technician is responsible for the safe collection, sorting, testing, and processing of electronic waste in compliance with environmental regulations and data security standards. This role combines technical troubleshooting skills with physical stamina to manage the lifecycle of retired technology, including computers, mobile phones, servers, and general electronics. You'll ensure proper handling of hazardous materials, perform data destruction, and help recover valuable components from electronic devices.

Requirements

  • Strong knowledge of computer hardware components including CPUs, motherboards, RAM, and storage drives
  • Experience using diagnostic software and basic data sanitization tools
  • Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, and specialized disassembly equipment
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Ability to maintain strict data security protocols and chain-of-custody documentation
  • Physical capability to lift 50 lbs regularly and work in warehouse conditions
  • Understanding of safety protocols for handling hazardous materials such as lithium-ion batteries, mercury switches, and CRT monitors
  • Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.

  • CompTIA A+ Certification
  • Knowledge of e-waste standards such as R2 (Responsible Recycling), e-Stewards, or ISO 14001
  • Forklift certification
  • Experience with data destruction tools like Blancco or DBAN
  • Previous experience in electronics recycling or refurbishment operations
  • Basic repair and upgrade skills for electronic devices
  • Familiarity with asset management systems and inventory tracking software

Responsibilities

  • Receiving and sorting incoming electronic waste by product type, material, and recycling stream while identifying and safely handling hazardous materials
  • Testing, diagnosing, and troubleshooting electronics to determine refurbishment potential and disassembling devices to harvest valuable components
  • Performing certified data wiping, degaussing, or physical destruction on hard drives and storage media while maintaining chain-of-custody documentation
  • Conducting basic repairs and upgrades to prepare devices for secondary markets
  • Logging inventory into asset management systems and generating reports on recycled volumes, recovered assets, and hazardous waste manifests
  • Operating hand tools, power tools, and specialized disassembly equipment to break down electronic devices safely
  • Weighing materials and coordinating outgoing inventory while adhering to environmental and safety protocols
