We're seeking a Business Development/Territory Underwriter covering CT, MA and RI! The E&S Business Development Underwriter can be located in CT, MA or RI and will work from remote to manage an assigned underwriting territory to achieve profitable growth, including underwriting new business, identifying new business opportunities and managing agency relationships. This role drives profitable growth across CT, MA and RI by underwriting new business, managing agency relationships, and identifying new opportunities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and six plus years related insurance experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrated success in commercial lines property casualty insurance businesses.
  • Basic knowledge of computer programs in a Windows environment, including Word, Excel and E-mail is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced professional insurance coursework (i.e., CPCU, ASLI, and AU) or completion of other insurance-related classes is preferred.
  • Past experience working with independent agents is preferred.
  • Surplus lines underwriting experience is highly preferred.
  • Prior experience working in a paperless environment, including familiarity with on-line underwriting tools is preferred (e.g. SAGE, Silver Plume, and Reference Connect).

Responsibilities

  • Build and strengthen agency relationships through education, outreach, and strategic collaboration.
  • Evaluate risks, set terms, and price policies within authority to meet profitability goals.
  • Achieve targets for new business, rate changes, and underwriting quality.
  • Deliver timely quotes, endorsements, audits, and policy issuance with precision and consistency.
  • Review inspections, audits, and endorsements to ensure accurate coverage and premium adequacy.
  • Support and coach junior underwriters to build team capability.
  • Assess facultative reinsurance needs and manage cession processes.
