About The Position

The E&I Technician I is an entry-to-intermediate level role focused on supporting the maintenance and foundational troubleshooting of electrical and instrumentation systems. Under the direction of the Maintenance Supervisor, this role ensures the safe operation of plant electrical infrastructure while assisting level II E&I Technicians with routine calibrations and repairs to ensure optimal plant performance. This role is part of the initial plant leadership team for a new shingle manufacturing facility in Newton, KS. The position involves wearing many hats during the construction and commissioning phases, with the opportunity to travel to other locations, engage with peers, support hiring, and participate in facility design and construction. The first few years are expected to be rewarding and challenging with a supportive team.

Requirements

  • H.S. Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) required
  • 3+ years industrial or mechanical maintenance experience in a high volume manufacturing operations, preferably continuous process
  • NFPA 70e certificate

  • Intermediate proficiency in G suite
  • Foundational ability to read and interpret basic electrical schematics, loop sheets, and P&IDs.
  • Entry-level familiarity with PLC-based control systems and the ability to navigate SCADA interfaces for monitoring purposes.
  • Competency in using multimeters, precision measuring equipment (calipers/gauges), and basic hand tools required for electrical tasks.
  • Foundational knowledge of 480v 3-phase systems and their respective controls.
  • Working knowledge of HAZMAT, SDS, EPA, OSHA (LTV/Arc Flash), NEC, and NFPA requirements.
  • Ability to apply common-sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions and calculate basic tolerances.

Responsibilities

  • Champion a safe and clean work environment, embedding safety as the highest priority within our culture.

  • Maintain compliance with safety policies and procedures, conduct inspections of plant areas, and ensure deficiencies found are resolved or appropriately communicated.
  • Perform routine troubleshooting, service, and repair of basic plant electrical and control systems.
  • Assist Level II technicians in the installation and calibration of pneumatic, hydraulic, and digital industrial instrumentation.
  • Diagnose and repair basic AC/DC motor issues and single-phase/3-phase power systems.
  • Perform daily preventive maintenance (PM) on equipment, facility infrastructure, and utilities.
  • Document all work in the CMMS, ensuring high data integrity regarding labor, parts, and technical findings to assist Maintenance Planners in refining job methods.
  • Participate in 5S initiatives, conduct regular inspections of plant areas, and ensure safety deficiencies are resolved or communicated.
  • Perform other job duties as assigned.
