About The Position

This role is an immediate backfill for a candidate on leave, with a potential for extension ranging from 1-6 months. The Dyno Technician will operate and maintain dynamometer test systems for the development and validation testing of electrified powertrain systems, including drive units and gearboxes. Working closely with Powertrain Test Engineers, the technician will install, configure, and maintain complex powertrain test equipment to execute testing according to specified requirements. Responsibilities include performing first-line troubleshooting of operational issues, delivering high-quality test data, and supporting high-level Test & Validation plans.

Requirements

5+ years of Technician Experience working directly in test cells and/or large dynamometer systems.
2+ years of experience with electrified vehicles.
Expertise in instrumentation (Thermocouples, RTDs, Strain Gauges, Accelerometers, Hygrometers, Pressure Gauges, Flow Meters).
Expertise in powertrain test setup and test error proofing.
Expertise in mechanical tooling and build fixture design.
Knowledge of motor, inverter, and gearbox concepts.
Knowledge of propulsion systems and thermal (coolant and refrigerant) systems.
Knowledge of Electric Vehicle Safety.
Ability to work under strenuous/awkward positions throughout the working day.
Experience operating a variety of scan tools, diagnostic equipment, and common automotive test equipment.
Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills to solve powertrain system issues.
Ability to work in a team environment and communicate with fellow technicians.
Basic workshop etiquette.
Provide verbal and writing communication across all teams.

Responsibilities

Operate and maintain large dynamometers for vehicle and powertrain system level testing.
Select and install instrumentation for collecting response data during testing (e.g., accelerometers, strain gauges, pressure gauges, thermocouples, thermistors, hygrometers, voltage drop sense leads).
Build and set up test rigs/dynos for mechanical and/or electrical tests in collaboration with Powertrain, NVH, and Thermal engineering teams.
Perform routine maintenance and complex mechanical and electrical repairs.
Actively participate in Environmental Health & Safety within the laboratory, contributing to Risk Assessments and ensuring a safe work environment.
Support Validation Engineers in performing upgrades and modifications to Systems Under Test.
Perform first-line fault finding for operational issues on Systems Under Test.
Diagnose and repair prototype vehicle electrical/mechanical/software systems.
Support Test Engineers in achieving test plans and test equipment upgrade projects.
Document and communicate findings through established processes and systems, escalating issues early where appropriate.
Generate and own process documentation for test rigs and associated test equipment.
Provide feedback, create, and implement processes and suggestions for new and/or improved workshop standards, protocols, and processes.
