About The Position

This position is for a Hybrid/Local DW Admin/DBA with extensive experience in data warehousing, database management, and decision support tools. The role involves developing, implementing, and maintaining data warehouses and data marts, as well as managing database performance and ensuring data integrity. The candidate will also be responsible for ensuring compliance with EIR Accessibility standards for user interfaces and data access. The day-to-day responsibilities include entering codes to create production databases, monitoring database performance, directing changes to the data management system, reviewing and correcting programs, and answering user questions. The role also involves conferring with coworkers to assess the impact of database changes, modifying programs for performance tuning, and providing assistance in the planning, development, maintenance, and monitoring of integrated database systems. Evaluating user requests, incorporating them into the existing data environment, and providing technical assistance are also key aspects of the job. The DBA will perform data modeling, prototyping, and security recovery procedures, as well as maintain the data dictionary and monitor database performance for efficiency improvements. Creating test database environments, executing procedures for database recovery, and assisting with database software installation and implementation are also part of the role. Additionally, the position requires ensuring that user interfaces are compliant with accessibility standards and providing support to users regarding EIR Accessibility issues.

Requirements

Strong knowledge of database management systems, as well as data warehouse management and decision support tools
Extensive experience in the development, implementation and maintenance of data warehouses and data marts is desired
Experience in business objects and in building the data dictionary
Ability to use data base access tools for application delivery
Strong familiarity with analysis, planning and management reporting functions
Well-developed oral and written communications skills
Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills
Extremely high level of analytical ability where problems are very unusual and extremely difficult
Understanding of benchmarking processes and techniques
Very high level of interpersonal skills to work effectively with others, motivate employees, and elicit work output
Data Warehousing data population and data modeling techniques for target structures such as Star Schemas, Snowflake Schemas, and highly normalized data models
GUI based ETL tools such as Informatica, IBM WebSphere DataStage, or similar tools.
Implementation experience with enterprise class databases e.g. Teradata, Oracle, SQL Server, or similar technologies.
Implementation experience with analytical and reporting tools e.g. Business Objects, Cognos, Hyperion, MicroStrategy or similar tools.
Experience with data warehouse implementation process, from business requirements through logical modeling, physical database design, data sourcing and data transformation, data loading, Structured Query Language (SQL), end-user tools, database and SQL pe
Excellent analytical; problem-solving; team playing; and oral and written communication skills.
Proven ability to work successfully with technical and non-technical groups and manage multiple responsibilities.
Experience in computer systems analysis or computer programming work.
Knowledge of the principles, practices, and techniques of computer programming and systems design; of computer operations, systems, and procedures; of project control and cost estimating techniques; of computer programming languages; of data processing flowcharting techniques; of database structures and theories; and of current database technologies.
Has working knowledge of EIR Accessibility standards and assistive technologies.

Responsibilities

Enters codes to create production databases.
Selects and enters codes of utility programs to monitor database performance, such as distribution of records and amount of available memory.
Directs programmers and analysts to make changes to data base management systems.
Reviews and corrects programs.
Answers user questions.
Confers with coworkers to determine the impact of database changes on other systems and staff cost for making changes to databases.
Modifies database programs to increase processing performance (performance tuning).
Provides assistance in the planning, development, maintenance, and monitoring of integrated database systems.
Ensures that the conceptual and design phases of new applications are consistent with the structural parameters within the database environment.
Evaluates users' requests for new data elements and systems, incorporates them into the existing shared data environment, and provides technical assistance.
Coordinates the use of data to ensure data integrity and control redundancy, loads databases, and reorganizes as needed.
Performs data modeling and prototyping.
Performs logical and physical data modeling, designs relational database models, and creates physical data models from logical data models.
Performs security recovery procedures.
Determines and implements database search strategies and storage requirements.
Maintains data dictionary ensuring uniformity of definitions and sets standards for use of data dictionary.
Monitors database performance and recommends efficiency improvements.
Creates test database environments for applications sections, including the creation of necessary libraries and procedures.
Executes the procedures necessary to save, retrieve, and recover databases from hardware and software failures within established procedures.
Assists with determining, implementing, and enhancing standards on database security and with monitoring agency disaster recovery procedures and systems.
Assists with the installation of database software and with analyzing, designing, and implementing databases.
Assists in benchmarking and threshold testing of databases and with establishing and controlling necessary database security.
Assists in the selection of database management software.
Ensures that user interfaces for database administration and inputting, viewing, outputting data (via reports) are compliant with accessibility standards.
Provides support to users in obtaining data / information when EIR Accessibility issues arise.
