VCA Animal HospitalsWest Palm Beach, FL

About The Position

VCA Palm Beach Veterinary Specialists is seeking candidates for a DVM Internship. This program is supported by board-certified veterinary surgeons and a neurosurgeon, offering exposure to diverse surgical techniques and clinical approaches. The hospital is a state-of-the-art, 34,000 sq. ft. facility with departments including surgery, internal medicine, radiation therapy, neurology, canine rehabilitation therapy, and emergency and critical care. The facility boasts advanced imaging (MRI, CT), a linear accelerator, arthroscopic tower, and in-house laboratory services. It also houses the Palm Coast Education Center for continuing education programs. The internship is designed for candidates who have completed a 1-year rotating internship, 3 years of general practice, or a prior surgical internship, and who plan to pursue a surgical residency. The intern's time will be divided between three operating clinicians (two surgeons and a neurologist), with a focus on developing a strong candidate for residency. The program aims to support the intern in completing a publication for a reputable journal by the VIRMP MATCH date, though it's not a program requirement. Weekly didactic rounds include journal club, book rounds, and case rounds. Upon completion, the candidate will be proficient in surgical planning, approaches, closures, literature interpretation, manuscript preparation, boards preparation, client communication, and patient care. Opportunities to apply for a VCA-sponsored residency at an academic institution are available, and time off will be provided for residency interviews.
