About The Position

The Lino Lakes Fire Department is seeking experienced, licensed, or eligible Duty Crew Firefighters for part-time positions, working up to 53 hours per week. These firefighters will fill shifts from 0600-1800, 7 days a week, at Lino Lakes Fire Station #1 or #2. The role involves protecting life and property through fire suppression, medical aid, public education, inspections, and fire prevention duties. The department is community-supported and aims to serve with pride, protect with honor, and safeguard the community.

Requirements

Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
Must have a valid Minnesota driver’s license.
Must successfully pass a background investigation, physical, psychological examination and a one-year probationary period.
Must be able to pass an annual physical examination.
Currently licensed/certified in the State of Minnesota as Firefighter I & II, Hazardous Materials Operations Level.
Emergency Medical Technician certification.
6 months previous experience in either the Fire Service, Public Safety, Emergency Medical Services, Active Military, or Trades/Labor.
Knowledge, proficiency, and accuracy in the use of computer applications and software, including Microsoft Office Suite (word processing, spreadsheet and PowerPoint presentations).
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with all City staff, elected officials, and the general public.
Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with supervisors, co-workers, and the general public.
Ability to work independently and to prioritize work.
Knowledge of fire services procedures and practices.
Ability to maintain confidential and sensitive information.
Ability to work varied hours to attend meetings and accomplish the mission of the Fire Department.
Physically capable of completing a physical ability test on an ongoing basis.
Must be licensed or eligible for licensure by the Minnesota Board of Firefighter Training and Education (MBFTE), International Fire Services Accreditation Congress (IFSAC) Firefighter II, Hazmat Operations, Minnesota Emergency Medical Technician.

Responding to fire alarms and other emergency calls, extinguishing or controlling fires, or other hazards as a member of a team.
Selecting, dragging, lifting, and carrying hose and nozzle depending on the type and size of the fire, and applying a stream of water or chemicals onto a fire.
Positioning, raising, and climbing ladders to access upper levels of buildings or rescue individuals from burning structures and emergencies.
Creating openings in buildings for ventilation or entrance using an ax, sledgehammer, crowbar, power saw, or power equipment.
Protecting property from water and smoke using positive or negative pressure ventilation, waterproof salvage covers, and property removal.
Administering emergency medical care to injured persons and those overcome by fire and smoke.
Communicating during emergencies calmly, precisely, and articulately, using portable two-way radios or person-to-person voice communications.
Wearing and using appropriate protective clothing and equipment, including self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA).
Responding to calls for service as required by division’s policy/regulations during regular working hours.
Maintaining fire apparatus, equipment, stations, and grounds as part of a team, following department procedures.
Inspecting, maintaining, and repairing all firefighting and safety equipment as necessary.
Conducting tests on equipment as required.
Completing proper checklists, maintaining appropriate maintenance records, and reporting damaged or improperly functioning equipment.
Attending regular and assigned training sessions to maintain and upgrade firefighting skills.
Participating in drills, demonstrations, and courses in hydraulics, pump operation and maintenance, emergency medical procedures, fire prevention, and rescue and firefighting techniques.
Performing as driver/operator of fire apparatus.
Driving and operating firefighting vehicles and equipment safely and properly, following department procedures and regulations.
Maintaining vehicle and equipment in safe operational condition according to division's procedures.
Responding to emergency medical calls to provide efficient and immediate care to the ill and injured.
Determining the nature and extent of injury or illness and establishing priority for appropriate emergency care.
Assisting in the removal of persons from life-threatening situations.
Conducting safety inspections and pre-fire planning of commercial buildings as part of a team.
Participating in pre-fire planning of target hazards within the jurisdiction.
Participating in public education demonstrations, expositions, and presentations.
Assisting with hydrant flushing and flow testing.
Performing other duties as assigned or apparent.
