Durability Intern (Summer 2027)(Onsite)

RTX•East Hartford, CT
•$37,000 - $82,000•Onsite

About The Position

Pratt & Whitney’s Hot Section Engineering group is seeking a Durability Intern to support commercial, military, and industrial gas turbine engines. The group develops engine components that operate at elevated temperatures, including combustors, turbine rotors and airfoils, and major structural cases. The intern will gain exposure to heat transfer, fluid flow, and lining technical assessments and analyses that support the design, development, validation, production implementation, and management of advanced and operational engines. The role provides opportunities to work with turbine airfoils, combustors, heat exchangers, and other hardware, components, and systems. The intern will join the Durability team and contribute to projects addressing engine safety, reliability, capability, robustness, and affordability. The position includes collaboration with cross-functional teams, analytical work and simulations, support for experimental testing, documentation of test findings, and assistance calibrating and validating analytical models. Interns receive mentoring and technical coaching and work on meaningful engineering projects while developing an understanding of the aerospace industry and RTX’s operations.

Requirements

  • Must be pursuing a Bachelor’s or advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related engineering field and remain actively enrolled through completion of the internship.
  • Must have completed coursework in Thermodynamics, Aerospace Structures, or Compressible Flow.
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0.
  • Must be a U.S. Person.

Nice To Haves

  • Pursuing a degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering.
  • Experience conveying messages through writing, presentations, and within teams.
  • Experience working in cross-disciplinary teams.

Responsibilities
