About The Position

As an entry-level Durability Instrumentation Technician, you will play a foundational role in ensuring the structural integrity and long-term durability of Rivian vehicles. You will assist in the hands-on installation of sensors and the execution of physical tests to help capture critical data used to validate product life and performance. This role is ideal for someone early in their career who is a highly motivated individual eager to learn vehicle testing, work hands-on with test equipment, and collaborate closely with experienced technicians and engineers.

Requirements

  • Up to 1 year of experience in a technical or mechanical role; relevant coursework, personal projects, or military experience also considered.
  • High school diploma or equivalent education
  • Demonstrated interest in STEM fields, especially automotive or related technology.
  • A strong ability to learn new skills quickly and follow detailed technical instructions.
  • Basic mechanical and fabrication aptitude, with willingness to learn how to use hand tools and shop equipment (e.g. torque wrench, multi-meter, soldering iron, welder)
  • Comfort using computers; experience with spreadsheets and basic CAD is a plus.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills for documenting test activities.
  • Familiarity with technical documents, schematics, wiring diagrams, and engineering specifications is a plus.
  • Attention to detail and excellent observational capabilities to spot signs of wear or equipment issues during testing.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Self-motivated with a strong work ethic.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in installing and wiring basic sensors (e.g. thermocouples and accelerometers) on test vehicles or components according to schematics into the data acquisition computer.
  • Conduct general or preventative maintenance on lab equipment to ensure data integrity.
  • Carry out general lab upkeep and maintain an accurate inventory of both test and non-test components.
  • Support the setup and operation of hydraulic test equipment, including starting and stopping tests as directed.
  • Maintain accurate and comprehensive records of daily tasks and test logs.
  • Work closely with senior technicians and Durability Engineers to understand testing requirements and strictly adhering to safety protocols
