About The Position

The DST Truck Mechanic Trainee will work cross-functionally across multiple areas of the garage. Responsibilities include performing routine preventive maintenance repairs on trailers, and addressing emergency mechanical or electrical failures. The role requires the ability to diagnose and repair brake and wheel end failures on trailers, and perform minor structural welding and cutting tasks. The technician must be able to safely apply knowledge and troubleshooting skills to all assigned equipment and communicate effectively with transportation personnel, including managers, drivers, and clerks. Reading and interpreting instructions, manuals, and schematics is necessary, along with basic math and computer skills for documentation and processing work orders. Trailer techs may be required to perform service calls at remote locations.

Requirements

  • Must have 3 months of continuous work history in the last 6 months with a single employer listed on application
  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Must have a valid driver’s license
  • Must not have any DUI/DWI convictions within the last 12 months
  • Tools Required (See Attached)
  • Ability to advance to ME02 within 12 months of hire date
  • Show proficiency on standard preventive maintenance (PM1’s, PM2’s for trucks or trailers depending on mechanic classification)
  • Brake Inspector Certification
  • Wheel end class/certification
  • Basic Electrical
  • Identify fault codes
  • Proficiency with all tasks must be demonstrated before advancement, graded by completing the preventive maintenance process and work review by Shop Manager, Shop Supervisor, Lead, and two senior technicians
  • Must pass MVR check

Nice To Haves

  • Applicants may be considered for ME02 or higher at the time of offer if they meet one of the following requirements: Must have 6 months experience at a Shop/Garage, as a mechanic. Or Class 8 experience (semi-experience)
