About The Position

DSHS ESH Facilities Planner 1 Join our Eastern State Hospital team to support safe, well-maintained facilities across our large Medical Lake campus. The Facilities Planner oversees equipment and furniture inventory, manages small-scope projects, and maintains patient television and telehealth systems while ensuring all work meets hospital and regulatory standards. You’ll also help drive life-safety initiatives, participate in proactive risk assessments, collaborate with contractors, review construction proposals, and contribute to thoughtful space-planning and infrastructure improvements that keep our environment safe, functional, and patient-centered. In this role, you will track work orders, monitor project timelines, and support routine safety checks such as emergency call-box testing and water-management reviews. You’ll also coordinate physical environment inspections, submit and track deficiencies, assist with capital planning, and provide coverage for facilities operations when needed.

Requirements

• A bachelor's degree in planning, architecture, or related field and two years of professional planning experience.
• A master's degree in one of the above fields and one year of professional planning experience, or equivalent.
• Knowledge of building trades, contracting procedures, and minor public-works project management.
• Ability to read blueprints and accurately estimate labor and materials for building modifications up to $25,000.
• Knowledge or willingness to obtain training in the Incident Command System (ICS) through FEMA.
• Ability to communicate technical information clearly and work effectively with both technical and non-technical personnel.

Responsibilities

• Review, approve or disapprove projects of limited scope submitted through work orders and assign them to the appropriate area of responsibility.
• Track project completion in alignment with local service-level expectations and notify the Facilities Director of any delays or safety-related concerns.
• Coordinate with vendors and contractors to troubleshoot and repair complex systems such as electrical utilities, emergency power, duress notification, and access control.
• Review development and construction proposals for regulatory compliance and participate in pre-construction and design meetings.
• Ensure patient televisions and virtual visitation systems remain operational and perform routine maintenance on related hardware and programming.
• Initiate, approve, or modify work orders related to program safety improvements under delegated authority.
• Gather and evaluate environmental and facility-use data, prepare reports, and provide consultation on space planning and operational systems.
• Maintain regulatory compliance by coordinating Physical Environment risk assessments, inspections, and safety reports, and tracking work orders for identified deficiencies.
• Contribute to facility design criteria by developing pre-construction risk assessments, hot work permits, and proposals for future construction plans.
• Support capital project development, master planning, UOR processing, emergency call-box testing, water-management checks, vehicle inspections, and Facilities call coverage as needed.
