About The Position

This position inspects, bands, and tags units of dry veneer and works closely with forklift operators. The Dryer Forklift is responsible for using a forklift to load veneer onto the dryer infeed's, maintaining the flow of production, and performing daily pre-operation inspections on the forklift. The role also involves staging units, removing production tags and stickers, ensuring units from dryer 2 are correctly graded before transport, and scanning tickets for inventory purposes. Employees may be required to rotate to different positions for cross-training and assist with basic maintenance. The working environment is primarily indoors (75%) with significant forklift traffic, occasional pedestrian traffic, and congested areas. Employees will also work outdoors (25%) and be exposed to temperature extremes, moving from ambient outdoor temperatures to a dryer area with temperatures up to 110 degrees Fahrenheit. The environment is noisy.

Requirements

  • Must be a trained and authorized forklift driver.
  • Must be able to transfer veneer in an efficient, responsible, and highly organized manner.
  • Organization and time management skills are required.
  • Must be constantly aware of surroundings.
  • Communicates with others via face-to-face communication.
  • Work with little supervision.
  • Must be self-directed in identifying and efficiently completing each next task.
  • Constant use of hearing and vision.
  • Frequent bending, twisting, pushing/pulling and reaching.
  • Occasional lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling more than 50 lbs.
  • Must read and write during safety training.

Responsibilities

  • Use forklift to load veneer onto the dryer infeed’s and maintain flow of production.
  • Help green end jitney driver as needed.
  • Perform daily pre-operation inspections on the forklift.
  • Stage units, remove production tags and stickers from units being loaded onto machine centers.
  • Make sure units coming off outfeed of dryer 2 are marked the correct grade before transport.
  • Scan tickets of units into associated barcoded bay for inventory purposes.
  • Rotate to different positions for cross training purposes or to facilitate production.
  • Assist Co-Workers or maintenance personnel in basic maintenance and upkeep of machine.
