About The Position

This role is for a Dry Bulk Operator 3, specifically a Crane Operator, responsible for performing precision lifting operations in a marine terminal environment. The position involves overseeing and managing daily terminal operations, ensuring the safe and efficient handling of dry bulk products through various transportation methods. Key responsibilities include operating a Liebherr 600 mobile harbor crane, managing rail and vessel operations, and maintaining various dry bulk equipment. Safety, compliance, and teamwork are paramount in this role, which also requires active participation in training and documentation.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 3+ years of experience operating heavy equipment (forklift, track hoe, front-end loader, etc.).
  • Must have or be able to obtain a TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Credential) card.
  • Proficient in operating equipment such as forklifts, track hoes, and cranes.
  • Ability to perform tasks that require lifting, maneuvering equipment, and working in physically demanding environments.
  • Familiarity with safety protocols, job hazard analysis (JHA), and ability to identify and report safety hazards.
  • Availability for shift work, including weekends and holidays, and ability to respond to emergency call-out situations as needed.

Nice To Haves

  • Preferred experience operating mobile harbor cranes.
  • Strong preference certified on Liebherr 600 Crane.

Responsibilities

  • Perform precision lifting operations using hooks, grabs, spreaders, and other attachments in a marine terminal environment.
  • Interpret load charts, crane capacity limits, and lifting parameters to ensure safe crane operation at all times.
  • Monitor wind speeds, ground conditions, vessel movement, and load stability to adjust crane operations accordingly.
  • Conduct pre-operational and post-operational inspections of the crane, identifying and reporting mechanical or safety issues.
  • Coordinate closely with riggers, signalmen, deckhands, and vessel crews to execute safe and efficient lifts.
  • Maintain continuous situational awareness to prevent incidents and ensure safe cargo handling in dynamic port conditions.
  • Oversee and manage daily terminal operations, ensuring the safe and efficient handling of dry bulk products through rail, vessel, barge, and truck.
  • Supervise loading and unloading of dry bulk materials, including direct operation of a Liebherr 600 mobile harbor crane, maintaining terminal operations and ensuring safe handling practices are followed.
  • Direct and manage the mooring, shifting, and spotting of marine vessels as needed, ensuring that all vessel operations are executed in accordance with safety standards.
  • Ensure efficient railcar operations by connecting and disconnecting railcars for loading and unloading of dry and liquid products.
  • Monitor and oversee rail operations to ensure products are safely and accurately transferred between railcars and terminal facilities.
  • Maintain and report on railcar operations performance, ensuring all loading/unloading is completed on time and without incidents.
  • Perform vessel operations, including the safe loading and unloading of products from vessels and barges, primarily utilizing a Liebherr 600 mobile harbor crane, ensuring products are transferred efficiently and securely.
  • Coordinate with crane operators, other equipment operators, and the team to ensure proper handling and storage of products.
  • Operate and maintain dry bulk equipment, such as forklifts, track hoes, front-end loaders, bobcats, and conveyors, to support terminal operations.
  • Conduct routine equipment inspections, report maintenance needs, and perform basic maintenance tasks such as fluid replacement, greasing, and filter checks.
  • Ensure the equipment is properly maintained and operational by collaborating with the maintenance team to schedule repairs or replacements as needed.
  • Act as a signalman for other operators (including crane operators) to ensure the safe movement of equipment.
  • Ensure adherence to the Job Hazard Analysis (JHA), safety protocols, and all safety regulations while conducting all operations.
  • Obtain permits for specific job tasks and ensure compliance with necessary regulations.
  • Report all safety hazards, unsafe conditions, and work-related injuries immediately, and work to mitigate such hazards promptly.
  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to a culture of safety and promote safe work practices.
  • Maintain cleanliness in the work area, ensuring that equipment, conveyors, and terminal facilities are cleaned and organized at the end of each shift.
  • Ensure work areas are free from clutter, spillages, and other hazards, promoting a safe and efficient work environment.
  • Perform deckhand responsibilities as required, assisting with vessel loading/unloading and ensuring all tasks are carried out in accordance with safety and operational standards.
  • Work closely with the team to ensure smooth operation during vessel docking, unloading, and departure.
  • Complete daily equipment inspection reports, noting any maintenance or safety concerns and submitting them to the appropriate personnel.
  • Submit work orders for maintenance tasks and ensure all incidents, delays, or operational issues are reported promptly.
  • Ensure all rail, vessel, and equipment operations are well-documented and reported as per company procedures.
  • Actively participate in required training, including obtaining certifications (such as Liehberr 600 Crane certification) and maintaining them for safe operations.
  • Continuously improve technical skills and operational knowledge, including becoming proficient in the use of equipment and performing required job duties.
