About The Position

Gateway Regional Medical Center is looking for a detail-oriented and compassionate Drug Testing Technician to join our Occupational Health team. In this role, you'll help support a safe and healthy workforce by performing federally regulated drug and alcohol testing, specimen collection, phlebotomy, and occupational health services for employees, patients, and community partners. Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 2 years of hospital phlebotomy experience with advanced venipuncture skills.
  • Experience with medical terminology and electronic data entry.
  • ASCP Certification or three (3) years of equivalent hospital phlebotomy experience.
  • Ability to obtain Federal Drug & Alcohol Testing Certification within three weeks of hire.
  • Current BLS Certification (American Heart Association or American Red Cross) within three months of hire.
  • DOT Drug Testing Certification (or ability to obtain if required by the department).

Nice To Haves

  • Coursework in biology or chemistry.
  • Previous Occupational Health, laboratory, or employee health experience.
  • Experience performing federally regulated drug and alcohol testing.

Responsibilities

  • Perform DOT and Non-DOT urine drug screen collections following all federal regulations and chain-of-custody procedures.
  • Perform breath alcohol testing and other occupational health screenings as required.
  • Collect blood specimens through venipuncture for occupational health testing and laboratory services.
  • Accurately label, process, store, and prepare specimens for transport.
  • Complete electronic documentation and maintain accurate testing records.
  • Verify patient and donor identification while protecting confidentiality.
  • Maintain compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT), federal drug testing regulations, and hospital policies.
  • Prepare collection areas and ensure testing supplies and equipment are clean, organized, and ready for use.
  • Provide exceptional customer service while maintaining professionalism during routine, post-accident, reasonable suspicion, and return-to-duty testing.
  • Follow infection prevention practices, safety standards, and Universal Precautions at all times.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation to support after-hours and emergency occupational health testing needs.
  • Assist with additional Occupational Health services and administrative duties as assigned.
