About The Position

The Drug Safety Specialist Supervisor is responsible for leading the daily operations, performance, compliance, and development of the Drug Safety Specialist team supporting medication replacement and product integrity investigations. This role oversees intake, investigation quality, replacement execution workflows, documentation standards, and escalation management associated with drug safety and replacement events, including temperature excursions, dispensing errors, damaged product, syringe defects, incorrect ancillary supplies, and other operational or human error scenarios. The Supervisor ensures compliance with Board of Pharmacy regulations, internal SOPs, Good Documentation Practices (GDP), and quality standards while driving operational excellence, process improvement, and team development. This individual serves as the primary escalation point for complex operational and regulatory concerns and partners closely with Pharmacists, Compliance, Quality, Patient Support, Fulfillment Operations, and Leadership teams to ensure patient safety and continuity of care. This position requires strong leadership, investigative, and operational oversight capabilities in a fast-paced healthcare environment.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent (Required)
  • Pharmacy Technician License or willingness to obtain licensure within required timeframe (Required)
  • 5+ years of experience in pharmacy operations, drug safety, quality, patient support, fulfillment, or related healthcare environments (Required)
  • Experience investigating medication issues, operational errors, or replacement events (Required)
  • Experience working in regulated pharmacy, healthcare, or life sciences environments (Required)
  • Must be able to stand for at least 4 hours at a time while working
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds with or without assistance
  • Must perform repetitive motions for an entire shift: bending, reaching, lifting, scanning
  • Must be able to work onsite for required shifts

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in life sciences, healthcare, nursing, pharmacy, or related field (Preferred)
  • 2+ years of leadership, supervisory, or team lead experience (Preferred)
  • Experience with pharmacy systems, ticketing platforms, quality systems, or safety case management tools (Preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Supervises and supports Drug Safety Specialists I, II, and III in daily operations and case management activities
  • Provides coaching, mentorship, training, and performance feedback to team members
  • Monitors productivity, quality metrics, turnaround times, and adherence to SOPs
  • Assists with hiring, onboarding, scheduling, and workforce planning activities
  • Serves as an escalation point for complex replacement investigations, operational concerns, and compliance-related issues
  • Promotes a culture of accountability, patient safety, collaboration, and continuous improvement
  • Oversees intake, investigation, documentation, and resolution of medication replacement events
  • Ensures replacement workflows are executed accurately and in compliance with pharmacist direction and regulatory requirements
  • Reviews investigations for completeness, accuracy, root cause categorization, and appropriate documentation
  • Supports trending and analysis of replacement drivers, operational defects, and recurring safety concerns
  • Collaborates with Pharmacists and leadership regarding escalated clinical or regulatory questions
  • Ensures audit-ready documentation and maintenance of replacement tracking records
  • Ensures adherence to Board of Pharmacy regulations, internal SOPs, GDP standards, and data integrity expectations
  • Supports internal audits, inspections, CAPA activities, and quality reviews
  • Identifies operational risks and supports implementation of corrective and preventive actions
  • Assists in development and refinement of policies, workflows, and training materials
  • Maintains awareness of regulatory updates and operational best practices related to drug safety and pharmacy operations
  • Partners with Compliance, Quality, Fulfillment, Patient Support, and Call Center teams to improve workflows and patient outcomes
  • Supports reporting and communication to leadership regarding operational trends, risks, and team performance
  • Participates in process improvement initiatives and operational strategy discussions
  • Interacts with pharmaceutical manufacturers and external stakeholders as directed by leadership
