About The Position

The Department of Health, Behavior & Society is seeking a Drug Checking & Project Specialist (DCPS) for Check It, which is an innovative, low-barrier mobile overdose- and HIV-prevention intervention that provides mobile point-of-care drug checking, HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP), wound care, syringes and other safer drug use supplies, and other services to people who use drugs in Baltimore and neighboring counties. The Drug Checking & Project Specialist oversees the administrative and technical implementation of complex and/or multiple research projects. As part of the research team, collaborates with faculty to develop project plan(s), develop SOPs, and oversee all research-related activities for one or more complex projects. (Complex to include, e.g. external partners, policy advocacy, significant community interventions.) As part of a team, the DCPS will provide point-of-care drug checking services to clients who visit the study’s mobile van and during local drug-supply related emergencies, lead health communication and education activities, and collect and report on project data. Additional support and management responsibilities may be required as project services evolve and/or expand.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees the administrative and technical implementation of complex and/or multiple research projects.
  • Collaborates with faculty to develop project plan(s), develop SOPs, and oversee all research-related activities for one or more complex projects.
  • Provides point-of-care drug checking services to clients who visit the study’s mobile van and during local drug-supply related emergencies.
  • Leads health communication and education activities.
  • Collects and reports on project data.
  • Contributes as a member of a collaborative team to study design formulation.
  • Participates in development, testing and evaluation of manuals, questionnaires, and coding structures, for the efficient collection of data.
  • Develops and oversees design and implementation of study procedures and tools for data collection, e.g. participant interviews, administer questionnaires; background research, laboratory processing, etc.
  • Monitors and ensures team compliance with all protocols, procedures, and applicable regulations.
  • Participates in developing study budgets.
  • Sets up data collection system and ensures validity of study data.
  • Organizes and quality controls data.
  • Recommends and implements changes to protocol operations based on results and goals.
  • Based on the analysis of data, recommends and implements the next steps.
  • Identifies and suggests ideas for sub-studies.
  • Extracts data, reviews literature, and assists with preparation of manuscripts and presentations as appropriate.
  • May oversee day-to-day activities and provide training for study staff.
  • Performs on-site point-of-care drug checking with an infrared spectrometer and test strips on mobile van and/or at fixed sites in partnership with local service providers.
  • Collects, records, manages, and disseminates sample- and project-level data for a variety of audiences.
  • Conducts community outreach; establishes and maintains community relationships.
  • Researches, develops and implements communication.
