The Drug / Alcohol Abuse Counselor will provide substance misuse and abuse services to financially disadvantaged youth, typically ranging from 16 to 24 years in age. This role involves early detection, diagnosis, prevention, and education, with a focus on facilitating student willingness to pursue recommended treatment plans. The counselor will ensure patient privacy, maintain confidential health records in accordance with HIPAA, and document all student interactions. The position also requires participation in various trainings, committee meetings, and reporting on health-related matters. Collaboration with other center staff, including the Center Mental Health Consultant and Center Physician, is essential for comprehensive care management, especially for students with co-occurring conditions or chronic substance misuse issues. The role includes conducting presentations on substance misuse prevention and education for new students and the wider center community, as well as assisting students in acquiring health-related skills for healthy lifestyles and employability.
