About The Position

The Salvation Army is seeking a Drop-In Center Worker for the Evangeline Booth Lodge. This role is responsible for providing a safe and nurturing environment for children while their parents attend classes. The position involves creating engaging activities, meeting the children's basic needs, and ensuring their safety and well-being. The Drop-In Center Worker will also communicate with parents and supervise volunteers in the nursery.

Requirements

Formal education/training in child development is preferred.
Previous experience in child care preferred.
Good communication and interpersonal skills.
Demonstrated ability to use initiative and be a self-starter.
A positive attitude and the ability to be flexible in lights of changing job situations/priorities.
Ability to communicate clearly in English with children and parents.
Certification in CPR and First Aid.
Supportive of the mission of The Salvation Army.

Responsibilities

Maintain a safe drop-in center environment for children under the age of 6.
Oversee the safety of children at the center.
Create educational and fun activities for the children.
Ensure that the children’s needs are met, including but not limited to changing diapers, toileting, appropriate snacks and access to toys.
Monitor interaction among the children.
Maintain open communication with parents of the children.
Supervise volunteers in the nursery, ensuring that they are assisting with child care.
All other duties as assigned.
