AAA Driving School Instructor

You will help students develop the confidence, judgment, and safe driving habits they need to protect themselves, their passengers, and others in the community. You will primarily work with teenage, first-time drivers, while also supporting some experienced and mature drivers. Through patient instruction, constructive feedback, and hands-on guidance, you will create a positive learning environment where each student can grow into a safer and more responsible driver.
Requirements
- A high school diploma or GED.
- A current Pennsylvania driver’s license with no moving violations during the previous three years.
- At least five years of driving experience and a minimum of 15,000 miles driven.
- Knowledge of Pennsylvania traffic laws and PennDOT licensing examination requirements.
- The ability to remain calm, attentive, and safety-focused in changing driving conditions.
- A positive and patient approach when working with students at different skill levels.
- Strong verbal, written, organizational, and customer service skills.
- Comfort using phones, computers, projectors, televisions, and other technology.
- The ability to present driving-related information to individuals and groups.
- Pass a Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance.
- Pass state and federal criminal background checks.
- Safely monitor students while teaching from the passenger seat.
- React quickly when necessary, including applying the instructor brake or taking control of the steering wheel.
Nice To Haves
- A Private Driver Training School Teacher Certificate, or the ability to obtain one within three months of hire.
Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality behind-the-wheel instruction in AAA training vehicles.
- Explain safe driving techniques and the proper mechanical operation of a vehicle.
- Help students practice driving in city, rural, and highway environments.
- Evaluate driving habits, reactions, parking skills, and overall vehicle control.
- Teach Pennsylvania traffic laws, motor vehicle regulations, and safe driving practices.
- Maintain constant awareness of the driving environment and respond quickly when safety concerns arise.
- Occasionally provide classroom instruction to novice and experienced drivers.
- Occasionally assess the in-car driving skills of experienced drivers.
- Communicate with students and customers by phone and email.
- Schedule lessons, process payments, complete required documentation, and meet established deadlines.
- Represent AAA Driving School at schools and community events.
- Help families and community members understand the benefits of professional driver education.
- Help new drivers feel more prepared and confident behind the wheel.
- Reinforce safe habits that students can carry throughout their lives.
- Provide families with greater peace of mind during an important transition.
- Contribute to safer roads by teaching responsible driving practices.
- Build awareness of AAA Driving School through positive interactions in schools and the community.
