About The Position

Rehab Without Walls is seeking a highly qualified Driver Rehabilitation Specialist to join our Home & Community–based Neurorehabilitation Program in San Francisco, CA. This PRN opportunity is ideal for an experienced clinician who is passionate about helping individuals safely and confidently return to driving as a critical step toward independence and community reintegration. This role is certification-driven and expertise-focused, requiring both Driver Rehabilitation Specialist credentials and Occupational Therapy licensure. A clinician who values professional autonomy, flexibility, and collaboration within an interdisciplinary rehabilitation team. Experience working with neurologic, orthopedic, or medically complex populations preferred.

Requirements

  • Certified Driver Rehabilitation Specialist (CDRS or DRP)
  • Occupational Therapist licensure required
  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Occupational Therapy from a college or university with an accredited Occupational Therapy program
  • Current, unrestricted license as an Occupational Therapist by state in which practicing
  • Current CPR Certification
  • A minimum of one year’s work experience as an Occupational Therapist
  • Communicates effectively and professionally in verbal and written interactions
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds
  • Moving, lifting, or transferring of patients which may involve lifting of up to 100 pounds following safety procedures
  • Duties require fine motor skills, visual acuity, and walking/ standing for extended periods
  • Additional physical requirements include: pushing/pulling, bending/stooping, reaching, kneeling, and positioning frequently at times

Nice To Haves

  • Demonstrated experience in comprehensive clinical driving evaluations
  • Demonstrated experience in behind-the-wheel assessments
  • Demonstrated experience in adaptive driving training and recommendations
  • Experience working with neurologic, orthopedic, or medically complex populations preferred.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of rehabilitation techniques related to complex neurological diagnoses preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough clinical and on-road driving evaluations.
  • Develop individualized driving rehabilitation plans tailored to each client’s functional abilities and goals.
  • Provide adaptive driving training to support safe return to driving.
  • Collaborate with referring clinicians (OT, PT, SLP, neuropsychology) to support broader recovery and community reintegration goals.
  • Perform evaluations and develop treatment plans.
  • Regularly re-assess effectiveness of treatment plans, attend staffing meetings and family conferences.
  • Perform discharge evaluations, make appropriate recommendations for home and community safety, and provide referral and education resources.
  • Communicate patient’s needs and progress to the treatment team, physician, person receiving services and family members.
  • Communicates with other disciplines to ensure collaboration, coordination of care and enhance patient outcomes.
