About The Position

Hyster-Yale Materials Handling, Inc, a world-class manufacturer of industrial lift trucks, has an outstanding opportunity for an exceptional and talented Drivetrain Engineer I-III based at our Counterbalance Development Center (CBDC) in Portland, Oregon. Level placement is based on experience, technical expertise, and scope of responsibility. The role involves hands-on testing and mechanical design of drivetrain systems, including drive axles, transmissions, brakes, and related subsystems. The engineer will create and release designs using Siemens NX software, plan and execute development and validation testing, and analyze results to ensure performance and reliability. Collaboration with manufacturing, sourcing, marketing, aftermarket, and testing teams is essential for delivering high-quality products. The position also requires learning and applying team analysis methods and development processes for continuous product improvement.

Requirements

• Engineer I: Bachelors in Engineering
• Engineer II: Bachelors in Engineering; Masters preferred
• Engineer II: 1 – 2 + years of industry experience and/or 2 internships (e.g., MECOP)
• Engineer III: Bachelors in Engineering; Masters preferred
• Engineer III: 3 + years of industry experience
• Engineer I: Fundamental understanding of drafting practices, computer-aided design (CAD), design layouts, and engineering analysis, particularly in vehicle or automotive technology.
• Engineer I: Ability to demonstrate core professional competencies such as teamwork, communication, and problem-solving.
• Engineer II: Basic to intermediate skills in drawing practices, CAD, engineering analysis, and design layouts.
• Engineer II: Knowledge of vehicle or automotive technology, manufacturing methods, hands-on design and testing experience, and familiarity with test procedures.
• Engineer II: Demonstrated proficiency in essential workplace skills including collaboration, adaptability, and technical communication.
• Engineer III: Intermediate to advanced skills in drawing practices, CAD, engineering analysis, and design layouts.
• Engineer III: Strong understanding of vehicle or automotive technology, manufacturing processes, design and testing experience, and test procedures.
• Engineer III: Basic knowledge of industry regulations, project scheduling, and supervisory practices.
• Engineer III: Demonstrated proficiency in advanced professional skills such as leadership, project management, and effective communication.

Responsibilities

• Engage in both hands-on testing and mechanical design of drivetrain systems, including drive axles, transmissions, brakes, and related subsystems.
