About The Position

The Driver is responsible for providing safe, timely, and courteous transportation for residents while providing quality service. This role ensures residents have reliable access to medical appointments, community excursions, and planned programs. The Driver maintains the operational readiness of the community vehicle, including inspection and operation, strictly adhering to all traffic laws, current federal, state, and local safety regulations, and established MBK policies and procedures. The Driver also serves as an integral member of the Wellness Programming team, providing programming support.

Requirements

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
  • 1+ years of related experience driving, preferably in a service, transportation, or related field.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age or possess a proper work permit and authorization.
  • Valid state issued driver’s license with required class for company vehicles, valid insurance, and ability to maintain a safe driving record that meets company motor vehicle record policy standards.
  • Must complete required Background clearances, health screening and provide negative TB test results within 7 days of employment (must be within the last 6 months).
  • Must meet and sustain company Motor Vehicle Record Policy standards.
  • Ability to safely operate a passenger van, wheelchair lift, and basic tools (i.e., tire changing equipment, First Aid Kit, dollies/hand trucks), with or without accommodation.
  • Possess competent knowledge of the local area, including traffic patterns, to closely estimate travel times and plan appropriate routes from the community to the destination.
  • Must display genuine concern for the physical and emotional needs of older people.
  • Must possess the ability to always deal tactfully and professionally with personnel, residents, family members, guests, and the general public.
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to speak, write and read English.
  • Must possess strong organizational, problem-solving, and time management skills.
  • Ability to make sound, independent decisions when circumstances warrant, remain calm and effectively manage conflicts, stressful or emergency situations.
  • Ability and willingness to work independently without direct oversight.
  • Must present a positive and professional image.
  • Must be familiar with Microsoft Office Suite (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.), and standard office equipment.

Nice To Haves

  • 2+ years of driving experience with knowledge of vehicle preventive maintenance programs and basic emergency repairs, preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Safely transport residents and guests in community vehicle(s) to scheduled medical appointments, local excursions, and other planned community programs, strictly obeying all traffic laws.
  • Ensure the safe loading and unloading of residents, including proper operation of the wheelchair lift and securing wheelchairs and residents before driving.
  • Maintain open communication with the community property, through provided cell phone or other means, to report resident location and status, as necessary.
  • Conduct daily pre- and post-trip inspections and safety checks on the community vehicle(s) to ensure proper operational order, identify potential mechanical issues, and ensure the necessary safety equipment is readily available.
  • Promptly report any safety, mechanical, maintenance issues, or damage to the Supervisor.
  • Monitor vehicle and resident documentation, ensuring current registration and insurance information and emergency contact information is always present in the vehicle.
  • Coordinate and schedule regular vehicle maintenance and preventative repairs as needed, and be prepared to handle minor on-road maintenance (e.g., tire changing).
  • Understand and comply with Federal, State, and local regulations, and company policies and procedures, including securing required driver/vehicle credentials/licensing and maintaining safe vehicles.
  • Perform wellness programming duties as directed by management.
  • Maintain a safe and secure environment for staff, residents, and guests following established safety standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Promote a spirit of teamwork and open communication in alignment with MBK principles and core values.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Supervisor, Executive Director, or designee.
