About The Position

The Driver at Miller Healthcare is responsible for safely transporting residents, staff, and visitors to and from appointments, activities, and events across all Riverside Senior Life Communities. This role ensures that all transportation is conducted in a timely, safe, and courteous manner. The Driver is also responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and proper operation of the vehicle, as well as assisting residents in boarding and exiting the vehicle. Demonstrates flexibility with assignments within professional scope/duties/licensure.

Requirements

  • Strong knowledge of local roads and routes, excellent driving skills, and a commitment to safety.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills are essential, with a focus on providing compassionate and respectful service to elderly residents.
  • Must be physically able to assist residents with mobility challenges and operate wheelchair lifts or other assistive devices.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as needed.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Valid drivers license with a clean driving record required.
  • Adherence to OSHA regulations is required, including safe handling of chemicals, proper vehicle maintenance, and ergonomic practices to reduce the risk of injury.
  • Regular safety inspections and following procedures for lifting and assisting residents are mandatory.
  • Must comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), providing reasonable accommodations to residents and ensuring that all transportation services are accessible.
  • Receive training to assist residents with disabilities in a safe and respectful manner.
  • Speech: Required for clear and effective communication with staff and residents.
  • Vision: Necessary for driving the vehicle and detecting any abnormalities that may indicate potential hazards.
  • Smell: Essential for detecting odors in the vehicle, which could indicate cleanliness issues or engine problems (e.g., fumes).
  • Hearing: Important for safety while driving, including awareness of surrounding traffic, horns, and communication with passengers, staff, and residents.
  • Touch: Necessary for assisting passengers on and off the vehicle, ensuring their safety and comfort.
  • Physical Activity: Sitting (70%), Twisting (2%), Standing (20%), Crawling (0%), Walking (5%), Kneeling (0%), Lifting (5%), Driving (70%), Squatting (2%), Climbing (2%), Bending (3%), Reaching Above Shoulders (1%).
  • Lifting Requirements: Up to 10 lbs (Occasionally), Up to 20 lbs (Occasionally), Up to 35 lbs (Occasionally), Up to 50 lbs (Occasionally), Up to 75 lbs (Occasionally), Up to 100 lbs (Occasionally), Over 100 lbs (Occasionally). Assist residents and passengers on and off the bus, and handle items like wheelchairs and personal bags. This may involve lifting and carrying materials a short distance (usually 50 feet or less) and at waist height.
  • Repetitive Use of Hands: Simple Grasping (Frequent), Pushing & Pulling (Frequent), Fine Manipulation (Required for operating the vehicle, including steering, using controls, and interacting with passengers).
  • Repetitive Use of Foot or Feet in Operating Machine Control: Operating Vehicle Pedals (Frequent use of foot controls while driving the bus).
  • Environmental Factors: Inside Hours (4 hours per day), Outside Hours (1 hour per day), Temperature (Normal range), Lighting (Average), Noise Levels (Average), Humidity (Normal range), Atmosphere (Potential exposure to fumes during vehicle operation or while refueling).
  • Special Hazards: Normal driving hazards, which may vary depending on weather, traffic, and road conditions.

  • CDL with passenger endorsement preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Safely transport residents, staff, and visitors to various locations, including medical appointments, community events, and other designated locations within the Riverside Senior Life Communities.
  • Provide assistance to residents in boarding and exiting the vehicle, ensuring their safety and comfort throughout the journey.
  • Conduct regular inspections of the vehicle, including checking fluid levels, tire pressure, and overall vehicle condition. Report any maintenance or repair needs to the appropriate personnel.
  • Adhere to all traffic laws, safety regulations, and company policies while operating the vehicle. Ensure that all passengers are securely seated and that any mobility devices are properly secured.
  • Follow the transportation schedule as provided by the supervisor, making adjustments as necessary to accommodate residents needs or unforeseen circumstances.
  • Maintain accurate records of trips, mileage, fuel usage, and any incidents or issues that occur during transport.
  • Communicate effectively with residents, staff, and supervisors regarding transportation schedules, delays, or any issues that arise during transport.
  • Assist with the loading and unloading of supplies or equipment as needed.
  • Perform light cleaning of the vehicle interior and exterior to maintain a clean and welcoming environment for passengers.
  • Support other departments with errands or deliveries as requested.
