Position Summary: The Driver will be responsible for driving the STEM vehicles to school sponsored STEM activities and other events at specific locations throughout the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. The Driver will also assist as needed with loading, transporting, and unloading school supplies and equipment necessary to support the specific activity or event. The Driver will be responsible for the safe and professional operation of the STEM vehicles to include performing general operator maintenance and preventive checks. Since the STEM vehicles may be required to operate five (5) days per week with a varied schedule dependent on scheduled school events, the Driver will work a varied and flexible schedule that may vary significantly from week to week. The schedule may include a mix of local one-day trips, overnight trips, and occasional weekend travel throughout Pennsylvania. All trips will start and end from the school headquarters building in Harrisburg.

Requirements

  • Hold a valid Class B Non-commercial Driver’s License and meet all Department of Transportation (DOT) requirements.
  • Minimum of high school diploma or GED
  • Must be 25 years of age or older.
  • Required to pass background checks that includes State Criminal History, FBI Clearance, Child Abuse History Clearance, in addition to PENNDOT and other background verification processes.
  • Pass a company road test.
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen.
  • At least three (3) full years of verifiable experience within the last five (5) years driving or operating commercial or large vehicles, or certified completion of a qualified, comprehensive driver training.
  • Satisfactorily complete a physical exam and drug and alcohol screening.
  • Driving record without motor vehicle violations for five (5) years prior to date of hire, and during employment.
  • Ability to pass background checks required for all school employees in Pennsylvania.
  • Must maintain a valid Class A or B Non-commercial Driver’s License and meet all Department of Transportation (DOT) requirements.
  • This position will require extensive travel and frequent overnight travel.

Responsibilities

  • Drive the school’s STEM vehicles to and from STEM events and other school-sponsored activities.
  • Drive the STEM vehicles back to the storage facility upon conclusion of events.
  • Prepare, inspect, and operate all STEM vehicles.
  • Follow routes, traffic laws, and time schedule.
  • Perform walk-around inspections, general operator maintenance of the STEM vehicles.
  • Maintain the cleanliness of the interior and exterior of all the STEM vehicles.
  • Fill fuel tank and water tank as needed.
  • At school events, assist with setup and organization of event.
  • Load and unload supplies and equipment.
  • Assist with the school event and activity setup and breakdown, as needed.
  • Conform to federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
  • Report any vehicle accident, vehicle damage, inoperative or inoperable vehicle equipment to the Director of STEM Education immediately.
  • Inform the Director of STEM Education of any motor vehicle infractions, change in driver’s license status, and/or change in ability to drive the STEM vehicles immediately.
  • Log travel expenses
  • Maintain a thorough knowledge of school policies and procedures.
  • Consistently provide service excellence to all staff, students, family members, and volunteers.
