The Route Sales Driver drives a truck over an established route to deliver and sell dairy products or services to customers’ places of business. The role also involves customer service and sales activities, including collecting payments, recording transactions, taking orders, soliciting prospective customers, informing regular customers about new products or services, and resolving service complaints. Drivers must follow Department of Transportation regulations and maintain a clean truck, perform routine truck maintenance, and work and drive safely, courteously, and efficiently. After successfully learning a route and running it independently, the weekly guaranteed gross pay is $1,200, plus commission. The job involves loading and unloading products; placing stock on shelves or racks; setting up displays and issuing promotional materials; and collecting empty containers or rejected or unsold merchandise. The driver must repeatedly stack and unstack items weighing 50 pounds from approximately seven feet high to the ground and back, and drag stacks of milk weighing approximately 240 pounds throughout the shift. Work takes place outdoors most of the time, regardless of conditions, and in very hot (over 100°F) and very cool (below 32°F) environments throughout the year.
