About The Position

This is a seasonal to part-time position with daily pay available, offering great flexibility and benefits. It's an excellent opportunity for retirees looking for a job that provides great satisfaction and allows them to make a difference in the lives of seniors and adults with disabilities in their community. Drivers are the first and last point of contact for members, operating and maintaining mobility buses, providing safe on- and off-boarding assistance, and ensuring timely transport. They also escort members door-to-door in all weather conditions, transport for field trips, take members to medical appointments, and run errands. Team members are expected to lead by example with a positive attitude, being supportive, productive, dependable, and prioritizing member safety and happiness.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 21 years of age.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Able to multi-task and manage time effectively.
  • Valid driver’s license and state/vehicle-specific driver credentials.
  • Able to work a flexible schedule.
  • Able to push, pull, bend, turn, pivot, transfer and lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Able to routinely and repeatedly exit and enter the vehicle to assist members with on- and off-boarding.
  • Able to pass required physical exams including Department of Transportation (DOT) exam.
  • Successful results of background check, motor vehicle report, drug testing and any other state-specific requirements.
  • Certifications such as CPR, First Aid, and Passenger Assisted Safety & Sensitivity (PASS) are required and will be facilitated as part of job training.

  • Prior experience working as a driver.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct daily vehicle inspections and follow prescribed maintenance and fueling schedule.
  • Confirm wheelchair lifts and tie down equipment are operating properly.
  • Notify supervisor of mechanical or safety concerns and report repair or service needs.
  • Maintain vehicle cleanliness.
  • Exchange recommendations and insight with coworkers to ensure best practices for accommodating unique needs of members during on-boarding, off-boarding and transport.
  • Assist members with on- and off-boarding and with any special needs during transport.
  • Confirm members are securely fastened in vehicle and transport in a timely manner.
  • Maintain vehicle information, including route, mileage, fuel and service records.
  • Maintain and secure company property, including vehicle, phone and fuel cards.
  • Communicate in a positive, courteous and professional manner with members and their families, co-workers, referral agencies, and the community at large.
  • Deliver information to family members as requested.
  • Report issues, concerns or unusual occurrences to the lead driver, transportation coordinator or center director.
  • Comply with company policies and procedures, safety and regulatory laws and standards.
  • Assist transportation coordinator and/or center director in identifying and implementing operational efficiencies to enhance the member experience.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as changed or assigned at any time.
