There may also be occasional office work.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of state and local traffic laws and regulations.
  • A valid CDL – Class A or B, Passenger and School Bus endorsements and no Air Brake restriction, as well as a DOT Medical Examiner’s Certificate.
  • Required to maintain all credentials necessary to perform all roles in this position, at all times. If disqualified of any credential, work assignments and/or rate of pay could be adjusted until credentials are reinstated.
  • Be reliable, dependable, and considerate of others.
  • Transport customers in a safe and courteous manner.
  • Demonstrate the ability to drive a school bus, van and wheelchair accessible vehicles.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and transportation.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Must be able to pass background checks and pre-employment drug screening.
  • Must be available to work throughout the Greater Harrisburg area.
  • Must have the ability to adapt and change plans as circumstances warrant.
  • Must have the stamina to maintain attention to detail despite interruptions.
  • Must have the ability to read and comprehend written instruction and have the speech and hearing to communicate in person and over the telephone.
  • Must be able to present themselves in a clean and professional manner, and provide reliable and courteous service.
  • Must be able to complete required paperwork.
  • Must be able to lift the engine hood of the vehicle, assist students out of the emergency exit, and open and close windows.
  • Must be able to bend and twist as necessary to check tire pressure, clean up the bus interior, operate hydraulic brakes and apply wheel chair tie downs.
  • Must be able to spend hours sitting and maintain a two-inch clearance around the perimeter of the steering wheel.
  • Must be able to climb stairs to enter and exit vehicle and climb out of emergency exits.
  • Must be able to complete required pushing, pulling, and reaching to operate vehicle mechanisms and assist students.
  • Must be able to withstand working in varying conditions, including indoors and outdoors and extreme temperatures and weather conditions.
  • Must be available every day, including weekends.
  • Summer hours to mainly be completed as part of the Hershey Park driving team.
  • Must be courteous in relationships with: school district officials, co-workers, teachers, monitors, parents, students and the public.

Responsibilities

  • Operate vehicles in a safe and proper manner.
  • Be alert and on time when preparing for work, scheduled routes, and field trips.
  • Fuel vehicles and keep proper records of fuel and mileage.
  • Keep all necessary logs related to the operation of any vehicle.
  • Follow set guidelines to report any behavioral problems on the vehicle, so that action may be taken.
  • Attend all necessary trainings and meetings.
  • Check and keep all safety equipment in good working condition.
  • Complete daily maintenance reports to help maintain company records.
  • Know personal limitations and adjust driving accordingly.
  • Clean and maintain interior of vehicle as needed.
  • Inform Supervisor when vehicle is in need of maintenance and repairs.
  • Encourage students and customers to behave in a safe and orderly manner during transit.
  • Perform pre-trip inspections before operation of any vehicle.
