About The Position

Gilead is seeking a dependable and compassionate Transportation Driver to safely transport clients to and from our programs and community activities. This full-time position works Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM (40 hours per week), and is ideal for someone who enjoys working with adults and individuals living with mental health challenges. As part of a collaborative team, the driver helps support client engagement, independence, and overall well-being while ensuring safe and reliable transportation services.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • One (1) year of driving experience, including safely transporting passengers.
  • Valid Connecticut driver's license, automobile insurance in good standing, and an acceptable driving record required.
  • Must be comfortable driving a 10-passenger van.
  • Ability to assist clients with mobility needs, including lifting and storing walkers and providing safe support during transportation.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and manage vehicle-related responsibilities such as fueling, cleaning, and scheduling maintenance.
  • Must successfully complete all required agency trainings, including Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI), and maintain all required certifications.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with older adults, individuals with behavioral health needs, or in a customer service/human services setting preferred.
  • Flexibility to adjust schedules and occasionally participate in special events, community outings, or program activities outside of regular hours.
  • Strong customer service skills, professionalism, and ethical behavior; including but not limited to communication skills and the ability to manage small to large groups of people with varying needs.

Responsibilities

  • Provides general transportation for clients of the social rehabilitation program in accordance with treatment goals and objectives.
  • Maintains safety of clients while providing transportation, reporting client safety or clinical concerns as they arise.
  • Operates vehicles safely, especially in heavy traffic. Reports a record of trips, significant schedule delays, as needed.
  • Responsible for keeping vehicles in good condition and reporting vehicle maintenance issues, as needed.
  • Functions as part of a team, including being able to share driving responsibilities by negotiating schedules and covering for other team members as needed.
  • Spends 65% or more of total scheduled work hours in the community.
  • Works in coordination with the agency Administrative Support Staff for proficient service delivery.
  • Responsible for accurately and promptly updating the transportation log and other relevant documentation, as needed.
  • Responsible for implementing changes to schedule as determined by supervisor.
