About The Position

The Over-the-Road (OTR), Open Deck Conestoga trailer. Driver is responsible for the safe, timely, and professional transportation of open-deck freight, including oversized and irregularly shaped cargo, between company facilities, customer locations, and designated destinations throughout the United States. This position operates commercial motor vehicles in compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (FMCSR), and company policies while ensuring the proper securement, protection, and on-time delivery of customer shipments.

Requirements

  • Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
  • Meet all DOT qualification requirements under FMCSR Part 391, including maintaining a current DOT Medical Examiner's Certificate.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of verified commercial driving experience within the past four (4) years.
  • TWIC card or the ability to obtain one within ninety (90) days of employment.
  • Basic computer and electronic logging device (ELD) proficiency.
  • Strong English language skills, including reading, writing, and verbal communication.
  • Satisfactory motor vehicle record and employment history.
  • No positive drug or alcohol test within the past five (5) years.
  • No DUI, DWI, reckless driving conviction, or speeding violation of 12 MPH or more over the posted speed limit within the past five (5) years.
  • No preventable accident involving bodily injury within the past three (3) years.

Nice To Haves

  • three (3) or more years of over-the-road driving experience preferred.
  • Experience operating multiple trailer configurations and servicing ports or intermodal facilities preferred.
  • Experience transporting open-deck, flatbed, or specialized freight preferred

Responsibilities

  • Operate an open-deck tractor/trailer in interstate and intrastate commerce for up to 11 hours following required off-duty periods, with trips ranging from several days to one week or more, while maintaining compliance with DOT Hours of Service regulations.
  • Safely transport a variety of open-deck freight, including oversized and irregularly shaped cargo.
  • Properly secure, strap, chain, tarp, and protect loads to ensure safe transportation and compliance with applicable regulations.
  • Regularly inspect cargo securement during transport and make adjustments as necessary to maintain load integrity and safety.
  • Assist with loading and unloading freight when required using appropriate tools and equipment.
  • Perform required pre-trip, en route, and post-trip inspections of equipment.
  • Maintain compliance with all DOT regulations, FMCSA requirements, and company safety policies.
  • Maintain accurate electronic logs and required shipping documentation, including bills of lading, permits, and other transportation records.
  • Plan and execute efficient routes while considering traffic, weather, and road restrictions.
  • Hook and unhook trailers and secure equipment as required.
  • Fuel equipment and perform basic preventative maintenance inspections.
  • Communicate professionally and effectively with dispatch, customers, and operations personnel.
  • Participate in DOT-required drug and alcohol testing programs, including random and reasonable suspicion testing.
  • Promptly report equipment issues, accidents, incidents, delays, or cargo concerns.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and professional work environment and appearance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
