About The Position

This position involves driving and operating vehicles and equipment safely and professionally. Driving time is approximately 20-30%, with the remainder of the time spent performing physical labor activities using hand tools and shovels outdoors, exposed to the elements. The role requires coordinating and handling mechanical mechanisms to deliver emulsion, picking up and transporting goods, inventory, hazardous materials, and other cargo. Responsibilities include maintaining driving and delivery logs, verifying load contents against manifest documents, and tracking/reporting working hours. The Driver/Operator is responsible for loading/unloading and transporting materials, including overhead bin loading which requires fall protection. They will operate mobile manufacturing units (MMUs) onsite at customer locations to produce bulk products for blasting and ensure consistent quality through the operation of Austin Powder bulk equipment. Daily tasks include completing pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections, reporting maintenance needs to the Location Manager, and complying with all regulatory requirements for the delivery of explosives. The role also involves operating mobile manufacturing equipment with precise chemical control and hands-on daily operation and maintenance of the Austin Powder location and customer sites. Other duties may be assigned.

Requirements

  • Valid Class-A or Class-B CDL license and cleaning driving record
  • Ability to work outside in all weather conditions.
  • Physical ability to lift 50 lbs. on a regular basis.
  • Must be able to read and interpret gauges and regulate gauges to correct standards.
  • Maintain accurate records of daily operations, including product usage and safety checks.
  • Trouble shooting, problem solving skills to fix issues in the field.
  • Must meet the requirements of all State and Federal explosive laws and qualify as an ATF explosive possessor.
  • Ability to work non-traditional hours (starting very early)
  • High attention to detail to have accurate inventory record keeping.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure.
  • Ability to follow instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, product bulletins, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to identify products by sight.

  • Must be 21 years of age as required by the DOT
  • High school diploma or equivalent

Nice To Haves

  • Hazmat, tanker, and air brake endorsements are highly preferred.
  • Unrestricted for operating manual transmissions is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains/operates vehicles and equipment in a safe, professional manner.

  • Keeps driving and delivery logs maintained, confirms the contents of loads match manifest documents, and tracks and reports working hours.
  • Responsible for loading/unloading and transporting materials and supplies to and from specified destinations, which includes overhead bin loading requiring fall protection.
  • Operates mobile manufacturing units (MMUs) onsite at customer locations to create a wide array of bulk products for blasting.
  • Masters the operation of Austin Powder bulk equipment to create consistent quality in our products to enhance our customer experience.
  • Complete pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections and reports any maintenance requirements to Location Manager.
  • Comply with all regulatory requirements and company policies for the delivery of bulk and packaged explosives.
  • Operate mobile manufacturing equipment, which includes precise control of chemicals into the product.
  • Hands on approach in the daily operation and maintenance of the Austin Powder location and customer sites
  • Other duties as assigned.
