Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • 1+ years of truck driving experience (26 ft vehicle or larger) or 1 year operating Johnstone equipment/vehicles under supervision; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience operating forklift and other warehouse equipment safely and competently.
  • Must have a valid drivers’ license with a driving record indicating a safe driving history acceptable to the company; must remain eligible at all times to drive a commercial motor vehicle under applicable state and federal laws and FMCSA regulations.
  • Forklift certification required, or willingness to obtain on the job.
  • Ability to utilize necessary technology to complete tasks, GPS, mobile Proof of Delivery (POD) devices, RF equipment, and ERP software. Must be able to read a map and mapping applications accurately.
  • Ability to read, add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to work safely in all job tasks.
  • Skill in operation of delivery vehicles and power equipment, including forklift, pallet jack, and cherry picker; ability to operate a lift gate safely and effectively.
  • Must be able to lift, push, pull, and maneuver large/heavy products or pieces of equipment while working within established safety guidelines.
  • Familiarity with warehouse or distribution center management systems and order picking processes.
  • Ability to follow instructions and procedures.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work.
  • Ability to attend to details.
  • Ability to complete routine paperwork.
  • Ability to work with others in a team-based environment.
  • Strong customer service skills; ability to demonstrate considerable tact and diplomacy in dealing with others and to maintain relationships.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • English proficiency (written and spoken) is a core requirement for this position due to the nature of the work, safety regulations, and to ensure accurate communication and comprehension.

Nice To Haves

  • 6+ months of experience in a warehouse and/or distribution facility, preferably in HVAC/R or related field.
  • Experience with a picker, RF scanner, and inventory management systems.
  • Knowledge of HVAC wholesale industry, principles, and practices.
  • Previous experience with OSHA and safety regulations and procedures.
  • Multilingual skills are valued.

Responsibilities

  • Receiving, filling, and shipping products accurately and efficiently, as well as ensuring the safe transporting and arrival of products, in a timely manner, to our customers and other store locations.
  • Operating basic power equipment (i.e. electric pallet, walkie rider, sit-down forklift) in a safe and efficient manner to locate, put away, stack, and move checked-in products to correct storage locations on a daily basis.
  • Receiving product by unloading trucks using forklift, pallet jack, electric pallet jack, or by hand.
  • Ensuring shipments received are in good condition and accurate by inspecting freight for damage and signing freight bills; verifying quantity ordered versus quantity received; checking all shipments against packing lists; and completing necessary paperwork for reimbursements or discrepancies.
  • Ensuring all required products have verified bar code labels and readable Johnstone stock numbers by scanning products, printing labels, resolving labeling discrepancies, and completing necessary paperwork.
  • Filling orders by picking, packing items into cartons, and stacking them in a manner that minimizes damage, entering items into scan gun, and completing necessary paperwork.
  • Documenting the shipment of hazardous materials by labeling cartons correctly and completing necessary paperwork.
  • Preparing orders by preparing trucks for shipments; palletizing and wrapping orders; loading pallets and pieces into trucks; placing packing list in last skid; and completing necessary paperwork.
  • Maintaining current accuracy and efficiency standards and following all standard operating procedures.
  • Participating in inventory cycle counts and other related projects in current location and/or the market as assigned.
  • Assisting in the maintenance and upkeep of all warehouse machinery and equipment.
  • Maintaining a safe work environment by working in a safe manner, following safety rules, and maintaining a clean work area. Promptly reporting any safety or maintenance concerns to supervisors.
  • Always wearing protective equipment according to company policies and procedures. Accessing Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) as needed and when appropriate.
  • Maintaining required hazardous materials, forklift, and other internal and external certifications as needed.
  • Maintaining professional communications when interacting with customers and coworkers. Treating all customers and coworkers with a helpful and courteous attitude.
  • Maintaining positive relationships with customers by providing exceptional service that includes accurate and timely delivery of products.
  • Serving as a key field contact for gathering accurate customer service and delivery expectations.
  • Safely operating company vehicles and equipment consistent with DOT, state, federal, and company standards.
  • Maintaining cleanliness of inside of truck, cab, box, and all assigned work areas.
  • Performing routine inspections and preventative maintenance on assigned vehicle(s)/equipment; referring defects, issues, or needs for repairs to the supervisor promptly.
  • Loading and unloading trucks. Checking and verifying deliveries against sales and transfer orders.
  • Preparing routes and following schedules and deadlines for delivery, shipping, receiving, and other related tasks.
  • Driving straight body vehicles including box truck to deliver supplies and equipment to customer’s place of business, job site, or other Johnstone store locations.
  • Maintaining telephone or radio contact with supervisor to receive expedited delivery instructions, utilizing communication methods safely and in accordance with all requirements and expectations.
  • Immediately communicating delivery, traffic, safety, and customer issues to their supervisor.
  • Recording sales and/or delivery information as applicable. Completing manifest with pictures, signatures, and any returns by way of iPad or manual completion.
  • Returning vehicle at the end of day, verifying it is fully fueled; completing monthly driver log and any associated paperwork; ensuring the vehicle is secured.
  • Returning gas receipts, monies, vehicle inspection logs, and any other paperwork necessary.
  • Performing all other duties as assigned.
