The HBDS Driver Manager owns the onboarding, training, certification and day-to-day performance of the Maersk employee delivery teams at a single Heavy-Bulky Delivery Services location. This role exists to make new delivery associates safe, capable and productive quickly, and to keep them. It is a hands-on, on-site role for someone who has done the job.

Requirements

  • Has done the job. Time on a delivery truck in heavy-bulky or appliance delivery is the most important qualification for this role.

  • Working knowledge of DOT regulations and hours of service.
  • Valid driver's license and acceptable motor vehicle record.
  • Able to operate a box truck and demonstrate the standard being taught.
  • Current DOT medical certification, or ability to obtain.
  • Must clear First Advantage background screening and all customer-required screening prior to onboarding.
  • Comfortable coaching adults, including people who have been driving longer than they have.
  • Strong written and verbal communication, and the organization to maintain a training record that stands up to review.

Nice To Haves

  • Internal candidates who came off the truck and worked their way up are strongly encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities

  • Own the onboarding of every new delivery associate at the site, from first day through release to solo route.
  • Deliver behind-the-wheel certification on box truck equipment and confirm each associate meets the standard before running a route unsupervised.
  • Train associates on the handheld and delivery application, confirming competency rather than attendance.
  • Train and reinforce DOT rules and regulations, hours of service, and pre-trip and post-trip inspection.
  • Own safety, damage prevention and claims prevention for the employee delivery teams at the site.
  • Manage day-to-day performance of the delivery associates: coaching, ride-alongs, corrective action and retention.
  • Maintain the training and certification record for every associate, so status is evidenced rather than remembered.
  • Own tool, uniform, handheld and equipment readiness for the delivery teams.
  • Partner with site leadership and recruiting on candidate evaluation, interviewing and pipeline for the delivery teams.
