About The Position

The Department of Public Safety, Driver Licensing Program, is looking for a professional, adaptable, customer service-oriented individual to fill our Sioux Falls One Stop Supervisor position. This is a full-time, 40 hours per week position that oversees the largest exam station in the state. This includes directing the work of at least 10 employees, interviewing and selecting staff, providing training, addressing disciplinary issues and completing performance evaluations. This position has substantial contact with the public, addresses customer complaints and conducts driver re-evaluation examinations on drivers who may no longer be safe to drive. Preparation and delivery of presentations/training in public forums and employee training will be required. There will be occasional overnight travel within the state and travel to out-of-state conferences.

Requirements

  • Previous leadership or supervisory experience
  • Good planning and organization skills
  • Work well as part of a team
  • Knowledge of U.S. and international identification and licensing documents
  • Knowledge of federal and state commercial and non-commercial motor vehicle laws, rules, and regulations
  • Knowledge of department driver licensing policies and procedures
  • Knowledge of investigation techniques and common medical terminology
  • Knowledge of computer operations
  • Knowledge of effective methods of supervision
  • Operate a motor vehicle
  • Ability to supervise employees in central and remote locations
  • Ability to establish and effective working relationships with employees and the public
  • Ability to lift and carry 60 to 70 pounds of equipment
  • Ability to employ effective positive persuasion techniques to obtain desired outcomes
  • Ability to organize multiple activities and meet deadlines
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office suite
  • Ability to communicate information clearly and concisely
  • Ability to operate driver license processing equipment
  • Ability to remain calm during stressful situations and react to emergencies quickly
