The Driver License section provides Colorado credentials to the citizens throughout the state which include driver licenses, instruction permits, commercial driver licenses, and identification cards. In this trainee role, you will learn to ensure compliance with Colorado Revised Statutes and Federal laws, Department policies, rules and procedures in the issuance of Colorado documents to qualified applicants. Requirements

  • Must meet one of the following or any combination of experience/education to meet the minimum (MQ) qualifications:
  • 1 year of experience in a customer service role.
  • College or university coursework in Business Administration, Accounting, Public Administration, Management, Information Technology, or similar field may substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis
  • Must have a Colorado address and a Colorado State issued Driver's License at the time of application.
  • Employees are in a position of public trust in the performance of their job duties and must operate in a manner that maintains the highest standards of honesty, integrity, and public confidence.
  • As a condition of employment with the CDOR , all personnel must file all necessary Colorado Individual Income Tax (CIIT) returns and pay tax obligations, therefore all employees must undergo a pre-employment evaluation of their tax records/accounts to ensure compliance with this policy.
  • Final candidates must also complete a successful background investigation and reference check prior to appointment.
  • Pursuant to the Universal Driving Standards Policy , any worker who will be expected to drive a State-owned vehicle is responsible for maintaining a safe driving record and a valid driver license prior to driving any State-owned vehicle.
  • Motor Vehicle Records (MVRs) will be pulled for review for workers who: Have an assigned State fleet vehicle, Are required to operate a vehicle as part of the position, Utilize a State fleet vehicle as a pool vehicle

  • Driver License Systems Fundamentals (DLF Certification): Newly hired (or transferred) Driver License Technician Trainees are designated "in training" for the first year in this position.
  • Driver License Technician Trainees receive Driver License Fundamentals (DLF) training and regular DLF skills evaluations.
  • Before completing one year in position Driver License Technician Trainees are required to complete DLF Certification.
  • After one year in the position, the Trainee may be reallocated to a Technician II.
  • Failure to achieve DLF Certification during the first year in position may result in removal from position and possible termination of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Interact with customers as the primary point of contact.
  • Communicate with customers about their needs, eligibility, and ensure compliance.
  • Assess the applicant's behavior and source documents and exercise first-line decision-making related to acceptability of source documents, proof of identity, suspected fraud, medical requirements, etc.
  • Process computer-generated driver's license, identification documents and hearing requests.
  • Administer written, oral, automated testing and grade examinations for all classes of commercial, standard and motorcycle licenses and permits
  • Qualify applicants for a driver's license and Colorado ID card by determining applicant's needs and eligibility.
  • Assess authenticity of documentation by comparing applicant's statements with available data.
  • Collect and account for money received for all documents issued. (This includes maintaining a cash drawer, counting cash, and balancing receipts)
