About The Position

The Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV) provides essential services to nearly every resident of the State of Colorado, including identification cards, driver licenses, vehicle registrations, and titles. The DMV also licenses and oversees private businesses and government organizations involved in driver and emission testing services. Additionally, the division collaborates with other state agencies to provide public information and education, promoting voluntary compliance. This specific role is an Office Manager position within the Driver License Office (DLO) in Alamosa, Colorado. The position reports onsite and may require travel to other DLOs to assist with daily operations. The role involves overseeing daily operations, managing staff, handling customer complaints, processing applications, performing accounting duties, and potentially fulfilling line staff functions when necessary. Employees are in a position of public trust and must maintain high standards of honesty and integrity. A key requirement is the successful completion of Driver License Fundamentals (DLF) training and certification within the first year of employment.

Requirements

  • Five (5) years of relevant experience in a public-facing customer service Supervisory or Managerial role that includes staff supervision and performance management.
  • OR A combination of related education in Management, Business Administration, Public Administration, Human Resources or a similar field and/or relevant experience in a public-facing customer service Supervisory or Managerial role that includes staff supervision and performance management., equal to five (5) years.

  • Must be legally eligible to work in the United States.
  • Must undergo a pre-employment evaluation of tax records/accounts to ensure compliance with Colorado Individual Income Tax (CIIT) filing and payment policy.
  • Must complete a successful background investigation and reference check prior to appointment.
  • Must maintain a safe driving record and a valid driver license if required to drive a State-owned vehicle.
  • Must achieve Driver License Fundamentals (DLF) Certification within one year of employment, requiring a combined average of 90% on written and practical examinations.

  • Additional years of direct supervisory experience leading a workforce interacting with the general public.
  • Additional years of department management experience, establishing performance goals and evaluating workforce performance.
  • Experience in a regulatory environment or technical customer service workplace serving the general public.
  • Intermediate to advanced computer and data entry and reporting skills, and proficiency with Google Suite.
  • Experience managing a retail store or business including overseeing staff scheduling, cash handling, and opening and closing the location.
  • Excellent customer service skills including de-escalation techniques and well developed written and verbal communication skills.
  • Driver License Fundamentals (DLF) Certified.
  • Driver License Systems Fundamentals Certification (DLF Certification).

Responsibilities

  • Oversees the daily operations of the Driver License Office (DLO), ensuring compliance and proper reporting to leadership.
  • Develops New Performance Plan yearly evaluations; as well as quarterly; mid year; and final employee performance evaluations.
  • Discusses employee performance matters and prepare documentation.
  • Adjusts resources and personnel, as needed, for maximum effectiveness.
  • Handles and resolves customer complaints.
  • Processes complicated, or more difficult applications.
  • Operates as the floor lead, relieving employees for breaks; monitors work flow; monitors employee schedules, etc.
  • Performs accounting duties, such as: daily deposit, reconciling employee cash/credit card receipts; verification of funds; employee cashiering.
  • Performs all functions of line staff, including issuing documents, when business dictates.
  • May stand for long periods of time.
  • May be required to travel to another DLO to assist with daily operations.
