About The Position

The North Dakota Department of Transportation is seeking a motivated, responsible, and customer service-oriented Driver License Examiner for its Drivers License Division in Fargo, North Dakota. The examiner determines applicants’ identity, eligibility, and legal status; reviews medical information to determine license restrictions; issues driver licenses, identification cards, and permits; and collects applicable fees. The role includes noncommercial driver testing in passenger vehicles, administering knowledge examinations, and inspecting vehicles in accordance with state law and safety requirements. The examiner also tests applicants for commercial driver license endorsements, restriction removal, and class upgrades. The position requires multitasking at a front counter and making timely decisions while customers are waiting. Driving tests are conducted year-round in automobiles, motorcycles, buses, and trucks, in all weather conditions. The employer provides training for the role.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Valid Class D driver’s license.
• Satisfactory driving record for the last five years; driving offenses are reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
• Customer service orientation and enjoyment of working in a fast-paced environment.
• Successful completion of the interview process, reference check, job function screening, and criminal history record check.

Responsibilities
