About The Position

This role involves driving heavy trucks, loading and unloading scrap metal, inspecting and grading metal, performing DOT inspections, and communicating with office staff and customers. The position requires working independently when driving and collaboratively with other employees to ensure a safe working environment. Daily maintenance of equipment, cleaning the work area, and organizing materials are also key responsibilities. Regular attendance and punctuality are essential.

Requirements

Must pass a medical physical and drug test.
Must pass a background check.
Ability to communicate with others effectively.
Ability to understand direction (written or oral).
Ability to use basic math skills as the job demands.

Nice To Haves

High school diploma or GED and/or foreign education acceptable.
Bi-lingual (English & Spanish) language skills.
Previous experience operating a Wheel Loader.

Responsibilities

Load and unload trucks hauling scrap metal.
Inspect and determine metal grade for inventory tracking.
Perform DOT daily operation and safety inspection.
Communicate with office and customers to determine commodities to load.
Work independently when driving scrap metal.
Work with customers to satisfy their needs and assist them when problems arise.
Work with other employees in the scrap metal yard to ensure a safe working environment.
Perform normal daily operation maintenance: refueling, lubrication, cooling system cleaning, and housekeeping.
Clean up work area at the end of shift.
Keep work areas neat and orderly.
Organize materials for effective use of space.
Dispose of various waste materials in the appropriate manner.
Ensure cleanup is completed.
