About The Position

Under general supervision and according to established procedures, performs a variety of routine to semi-skilled general corrective/preventive maintenance duties in the repair, alteration, and modification of Hospital grounds, buildings, equipment, and facilities. This role is not directly involved in patient care.

Requirements

High School Diploma or Equivalent required
Class D Passenger Vehicle Driver's License [State License] - Generic - HR Only required
MGH Security RMV Check/Registry of Motor Vehicles Driving Report - MGB Internal required
1 year of Landscaping experience required
Experience operating snowplow and lawn equipment

Nice To Haves

3-5 years of experience operating snowplow and lawn equipment

Responsibilities

Receive assignments and work orders, review priority status, and design time schedules.
Sketch plans and/or read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, operating manuals, and manufacturer's specifications; estimate time, material, and cost requirements to install or repair.
Operate and test new equipment.
Perform corrective/preventive maintenance on a variety of equipment according to established procedures; inspects, calibrates, adjusts, lubricates, and repairs or replaces components.
Service or repair less complex equipment; schedule and maintain records of maintenance and repairs.
Perform a variety of general semi-skilled-to-skilled maintenance, alteration, and repairs to grounds-related machinery, equipment, or facilities as assigned or in accordance with basic skills and abilities, and standard procedures, diagrams, or manufacturers' instructions.
Perform a variety of routine manual duties as required, such as moving supplies, furniture, equipment, removing trash, scrap materials, minor patching/painting as required.
From work orders or instructions, mow lawns, trim hedges, prune trees, pick up grounds, sweep walks and parking areas; clean drains and catch basins as required.
Operate snow plow, blower, and/or shovel snow from walks, parking lots, roadways, roofs, and patios.
Construct, install, or repair items such as fences, traffic control horses, and paint them.
Make deliveries to various hospital buildings; pick up rubbish and trash.
Install and repair outdoor signage as required.
Paint curbs, guardrails, sign posts and re-line parking lots as necessary.
Move and set up furniture and equipment and maintain storage of excess.
Pick up various departments' bulk records and maintain storage area.
Patch holes in pavement and repair cracks as required.
Operate a truck to make deliveries and pick-ups.
Perform cleaning and maintenance of all patios and courtyards.
Perform necessary labor to accomplish landscaping projects and/or routine planting.
Pick up grounds-related construction materials from local vendors.
Respond to calls for emergency repairs; complete repairs and document service rendered.
Assist in training staff in the operation and repair of equipment.
Order supplies and parts according to established procedures.
Assist in evaluating new equipment.
Assist other department personnel as needed in handling materials on major repair or installation projects.
Keep work areas orderly, clean, and safe.
Assure proper care in the use of tools, equipment, and supplies.
Maintain and comply with Codes and requirements of accreditation and regulatory agencies.
Establish and maintain courteous, cooperative relations when interacting with patients, visitors, other staff members, and the public.
