About The Position

The Driver/Food Service Worker is responsible for safely transporting and delivering food, supplies, and related materials between multiple school locations within the district. This position requires approximately 2 hours of daily driving between three school sites and supports school nutrition operations by assisting with food preparation, loading, unloading, and distribution activities as needed. The Driver/Food Service Worker must operate district vehicles in a safe, efficient, and timely manner while ensuring compliance with all traffic laws, food safety regulations, and district policies. Responsibilities include conducting vehicle inspections, securing and transporting food products, maintaining delivery records, and providing excellent customer service to school staff. This position requires the ability to lift and move food carts, boxes, and supplies and work collaboratively with the nutrition services team to ensure meals and products are delivered accurately and on schedule.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Valid driver's license with a safe driving record required.
  • Ability to safely operate district vehicles used for transporting food, supplies, and equipment between school locations.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students, staff, vendors, and community members in both written and spoken English.
  • Ability to work independently and effectively manage delivery schedules and daily assignments.
  • Ability to successfully complete any required district training, including food safety and workplace safety training.
  • Experience working in a collaborative team environment and providing excellent customer service.

Nice To Haves

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Previous experience in food service, school nutrition programs, warehousing, delivery services, or a related field preferred.
  • Knowledge of food safety, sanitation, and proper food handling practices preferred.
  • Basic computer and recordkeeping skills preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Complete daily pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections and report any maintenance or safety concerns immediately.
  • Safely transport food, beverages, supplies, and equipment between three school locations according to established delivery schedules.
  • Perform approximately two hours of daily driving while maintaining a safe, courteous, and professional driving record.
  • Load, unload, and secure food carts, delivery containers, and supplies to prevent damage and ensure food safety standards are maintained.
  • Follow all food safety, sanitation, and temperature-control procedures during transportation and delivery.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary delivery vehicle and work areas.
  • Wear all required safety equipment and follow district safety procedures at all times.
  • Drive defensively and operate district vehicles safely in all weather and traffic conditions.
  • Assist with food service operations, including meal preparation, packaging, distribution, stocking, and kitchen support as assigned.
  • Provide excellent customer service and maintain positive working relationships with school staff and district personnel.
  • Complete delivery logs, temperature records, vehicle inspection reports, and other required documentation accurately and timely.
  • Coordinate with Nutrition Services staff and supervisors to ensure all deliveries are completed efficiently and on schedule.
  • Assist with receiving, organizing, and storing food and supplies in accordance with district and health department guidelines.
  • Lift, move, and transport food products, boxes, carts, and supplies, following safe lifting techniques.
  • Identify opportunities to improve delivery routes, efficiency, and overall nutrition services operations.
  • Attend required staff meetings, safety trainings, and professional development sessions.
  • Understand and follow all district policies, transportation regulations, food safety standards, emergency procedures, and workplace safety requirements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the district's Nutrition Services program.
  • Job duties may change or additional responsibilities may be assigned as needed to support school district operations and meal service requirements.
