About The Position

Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee is seeking a temporary Driver, Class B to join their Transportation Department. This role involves transporting vehicles and equipment throughout the food bank's network of Distribution Centers, while also managing reporting, operations, and safety duties as assigned. The driver is expected to maintain a positive attitude that fosters teamwork and represents the organization positively. This position supports the company's commitment to diversity and inclusion.

Requirements

  • H.S. Diploma/GED required.
  • 1+ year of professional driving experience.
  • Maintain valid CDL Class B license.
  • Maintain a valid DOT Medical Certification.
  • Safely and effectively operate a Commercial vehicle.
  • Make accurate mathematical calculations.
  • Apply, interpret, and explain policies and procedures.
  • Plan and organize work.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships.
  • Work effectively as a team member.
  • Maintain documentation and records.
  • Meet schedules and timelines.
  • Communicate both orally and in writing in a clear and concise manner.
  • Read maps and schedules and adhere to route schedules.
  • Successfully complete required tasks in electronic route management system (tablets).
  • Current driver’s license with copy of current auto insurance and acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) results required.

Responsibilities

  • Transports and delivers a variety of products and materials.
  • Load donations utilizing proper storage methods and procedures.
  • Load and unload delivery vehicles containing a variety of supplies, materials, and equipment.
  • Operates Commercial vehicles, forklifts, and other equipment.
  • Regularly checks vehicles’ fluid levels, tire pressure and cleanliness according to Daily Vehicle Inspections.
  • Reports potential safety issues and service needs to equipment Lead.
  • Maintains transportation areas and warehouse equipment in a neat, clean, orderly, and safe manner.
  • Operate in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.
  • Maintain positive and successful working relationships with agency customers and donors.
  • Observes OSHA, state, and federal safety regulations.
  • Follow all company and regulatory agency safety policies.
  • Obeys all traffic laws.
  • Drives defensively.
  • Reports any unsafe equipment or working conditions to supervisor.
  • Reports any needed repairs or special maintenance to Equipment Supervisor immediately.
  • Maintains a clean and functional vehicle.
  • Follows the regular vehicle maintenance schedule, as provided by Equipment Supervisor.
  • Other duties as assigned.
