About The Position

Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee is seeking a full-time Driver, Class A CDL to join their Transportation Department. For 46 years, Second Harvest Food Bank has been dedicated to providing food to those facing hunger and working to advance hunger solutions across 46 counties in its service area. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, they distribute food and products to approximately 420 nonprofit Partner Agencies. The Driver will be responsible for delivery and pick-up, reporting, operations, and safety, while maintaining a positive attitude and promoting teamwork and a favorable image of the organization.

Requirements

  • H.S. Diploma/GED required.
  • Minimum of one-year professional driving experience.
  • Maintain a valid Class A CDL license.
  • Maintain a valid DOT Medical Certification.
  • Knowledge of warehouse operational methods, procedures, policies, rules and regulations.
  • Knowledge of safe and proper loading and unloading of delivery vehicles.
  • Knowledge of proper physical lifting techniques and use of equipment.
  • Knowledge of correct English usage, spelling, grammar, punctuation and mathematical concepts.
  • Knowledge of use and terminology of requisitions, purchase orders, invoices, and other documentation.
  • Ability to effectively operate a Commercial vehicle.
  • Ability to make accurate mathematical calculations.
  • Ability to apply, interpret, and explain policies and procedures.
  • Ability to plan and organize work.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships.
  • Ability to work effectively as a team member.
  • Ability to maintain documentation and records.
  • Ability to meet schedules and timelines.
  • Ability to communicate both orally and in writing in a clear and concise manner.
  • Ability to read maps and schedules and adhere to route schedules.

Responsibilities

  • Transports and delivers a variety of product and materials.
  • Loads donations utilizing proper storage methods and procedures.
  • Loads and unloads delivery vehicles containing a variety of supplies, materials and equipment.
  • Operates delivery vehicles, forklifts and other equipment.
  • Regularly checks vehicles’ fluid levels, tire pressure and cleanliness.
  • Reports potential safety issues and service needs.
  • Maintains transportation areas and warehouse equipment in a neat, clean, orderly and safe manner.
  • Operates in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.
  • Observes OSHA, state, and federal safety regulations.
  • Follows all company and regulatory agency safety policies.
  • Obeys all traffic laws.
  • Drives defensively.
  • Reports any unsafe equipment or working conditions to supervisor.
  • Reports any needed repairs or special maintenance to supervisor immediately.
  • Maintains a clean and functional vehicle.
  • Follows the regular vehicle maintenance schedule, as provided by supervisor.
  • Other duties as assigned.
