Requirements

  • High School diploma required.
  • Genuine concern for people, patience in dealing with their needs.
  • Current CDL Public Service Driver's license, good driving record.
  • Must be able to lift, carry packages and equipment up to 30 lbs.
  • Must be able to assist residents in and out of vehicles and in doctors' offices, guiding residents up to an average 160 lbs.
  • Must be able to move intermittently throughout the day.
  • Must be able to bend, squat, twist, to secure wheelchairs in van.
  • Must be able to read, write and speak the English language in an understandable and tactful manner and possess a pleasant speaking voice.
  • Must be able to follow written and oral instructions well.
  • Must possess sight/hearing senses, or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately so that the requirements of this position can be fully met.
  • Must function independently, have personal integrity, have flexibility, and the ability to work effectively and harmoniously with other personnel, residents, and families.
  • Must be in good general health and demonstrate emotional and mental stability and patience to cope with the stress of the position.

Responsibilities

  • Skilled to operate a regular vehicle and/or wheelchair van
  • Drive residents to and from scheduled medical appointments.
  • Drive residents to shopping centers, banks, bus or train stations, airports, etc.
  • Do errands for residents, and for staff on behalf of residents.
  • Transport residents by golf cart to and from noon meal in dining room.
  • Assists residents in and out of vehicles as needed.
  • Maintain record of driving in log book in each vehicle.
  • Report all mechanical problems with vehicles to the Maintenance Supervisor as soon as they are evident.
  • Have vehicle washed periodically as needed, at least monthly.
  • Maintain clean, neat interior of the vehicle.
  • Keep vehicle filled with gas.
  • Turn in receipts for vehicle gas, maintenance, etc. to Accounting Department.
  • Monthly check for oil, transmission and radiator fluids.
  • Attend and participate in in-service educational classes; attend workshops, seminars, etc. as approved.
  • Performs any other duties and responsibilities that may become necessary or as directed by Supervisor.
