Driver Apprentice - Day Shift
About The Position
The Driver Apprentice is responsible for completing 500 hours of behind-the-wheel training under the guidance of experienced Palmer-Donavin CDL drivers serving as mentors. Through ride-alongs, maneuver practice on company property, and participation in delivery routes, this apprenticeship provides the hands-on experience and technical skills needed to successfully obtain a CDL and develop as a professional driver within the company. Success in this role requires a strong commitment to safety, willingness to learn, and the ability to provide dependable customer service while supporting transportation operations.
Requirements
- Satisfactory criminal history check
- Satisfactory motor vehicle report (MVR)
- Satisfactory result on a pre-employment drug screening
Responsibilities
- Inspect trucks and assist with securing cargo prior to transport.
- Follow all safety procedures and transportation regulations during transit and delivery activities.
- Maintain accurate logbooks in compliance with DOT regulations and company policies.
- Obtain customer signatures and payments upon delivery when required.
- Support delivery operations and assist drivers with assigned tasks to help ensure excellent customer service.
- Participate in hands-on training activities to develop safe driving techniques and operational knowledge.
