About The Position

Handex is seeking Field Dredge Operators for our Industrial Services Team to assist with dewatering and processing operations at client sites. Handex is a full-service environmental company with over 58 years of experience, providing environmental consulting, remediation, construction, and sludge dewatering services across the United States. This role offers opportunities to work on projects in the North/Southeast and Midwest regions after initial project completion in Ringwood, IL.

Requirements

  • High school diploma/GED.
  • 1-3 years of experience operating hydraulic/electric dredge systems equipment in an industrial environment for cleaning basins, ponds, and lagoons.
  • Commitment to project duration, including working a 6-day work week and 12-hour shifts (day/night as needed), with flexibility for rotational schedules and overtime until project completion.
  • Reliable vehicle, valid driver license in good standing, and a Real ID or valid passport.
  • Willingness to travel to client project sites as required.
  • Comfortable working in industrial settings (indoors and outdoors), confined spaces, and able to lift 50 lbs or more.
  • TWIC card required.
  • OSHA 40 certification is a plus; otherwise, it will be required.
  • Excellent customer service skills, reliability, dependability, and a can-do attitude.
  • Ability to pass pre-employment background checks (physical/drug/alcohol/criminal).

Responsibilities

  • Operate hydraulic/electrical, auger, or mechanical dredging systems for sludge removal in ponds, lagoons, and containment areas under the direction of the PM or site foreman.
  • Set up, position, operate, and maintain dredging systems, including pumps, pipelines, floats, and anchors.
  • Control dredge depth, swing, and production rates for efficient solids removal.
  • Assess sludge characteristics and adjust methods to maximize recovery and minimize water entrainment.
  • Coordinate with dewatering operations (centrifuge/filter press) to maintain steady feed.
  • Monitor flow rates, pressures, and solids concentration, adjusting to meet production targets.
  • Manage discharge lines and production logs to ensure proper material transfer to downstream processes, tracking volumes, conditions, and equipment performance.
  • Learn and follow all safety protocols, including confined space and lockout/tagout procedures, at all times.
  • Support mobilization/demobilization activities and maintain clean and organized work areas.
  • Accurately maintain and promptly process expenses and timesheets.
  • Represent Handex professionally, collaborate effectively with teammates, and maintain positive working relationships.
