About The Position

We are seeking energetic, passionate people who enjoy the outdoors and want to play a key role for the position of Dredge Operator 3 within the Division of Parks & Watercraft, headquartered at Lake Loramie State Park, assigned to Shelby County. This position will require a Class A Commercial Drivers License with no restrictions. The State of Ohio operates 76 state parks, manages over 750,000 acres of diverse wildlife land and more than 2 million acres of water. Across its 12 divisions and support services, ODNR employs office staff, law enforcement officers, geologists, biologists, engineers, attorneys, communicators, managers, and more. Working at ODNR is a special experience, offering opportunities to participate in public events at parks, nature preserves, wildlife areas, and annually at the Natural Resources Park at the Ohio State Fair. Regular Lunch and Learn events and monthly updates with the Director are also provided.

Requirements

  • 18 mos. trg. or 18 mos. exp. in heavy equipment operation & maintenance
  • 6 mos. trg. or 6 mos. exp. in dredging & related safety practices & operation of dredge & related equipment
  • Valid commercial driver's license
  • Class A Commercial Drivers License with no restrictions
  • Transcripts are required for all coursework, degrees or educational accomplishments claimed on the application. Applicants must submit a transcript (can be unofficial until point of selection) by the posting deadline (attach in the Additional Attachments section of the application submission Step 6).
  • Final candidate selected will be required to undergo a criminal background check.
  • Final applicants tentatively selected will be required to submit to urinalysis to test for illegal drug use prior to appointments.

Responsibilities

  • Operates heavy equipment to maintain dredge material relocation areas (DMRA's) & lake improvement projects
  • Acts as a lead worker over lower-level dredge operators in operation and maintenance of dredge tasks such as construction of dikes, boat ramps, dredge material relocation areas, and shoreline protection
  • Removes sediment & aquatic vegetation from waterways
  • Operates dredge-related equipment such as tandem dump truck, pickup truck, semi-tractor & trailer to haul stone & protect shoreline & dikes
