About The Position

Kokosing is seeking a Dredge Offloader Operator for marine projects in the Baltimore, MD and Norfolk, VA areas. This role involves operating a power-driven excavator equipped with a movable shovel to excavate and move materials such as dirt, rock, and sand. The operator will receive instructions from a supervisor, manipulate machine controls to move materials into trucks or stockpiles, and work on various aspects of utility and bridge jobs. The position requires inspecting, cleaning, maintaining, and lubricating equipment, and working in a safe and responsible manner. The job is located in the Baltimore, MD and Norfolk, VA areas, with a requirement to travel between Philadelphia and Norfolk, and work 12-hour shifts with an extended work schedule.

Requirements

  • Prior experience in position required.
  • Experience must be commensurate with requirements of Project - will vary depending on project.
  • Minimum four to ten years related experience and/or training.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Certified or approved by Safety Department, Equipment Manager, or Operations Manager.
  • Licensed as required by local jurisdiction (DC requires operators to be licensed).
  • Must pass practical test.
  • Regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.
  • Occasionally required to stand; walk; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Regularly work or walk on uneven ground or onboard floating equipment.
  • Access and egress to barges, boats and piers requires ability to do so from moving surfaces due to water motion.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Responsibilities

  • Receives written or oral instructions from supervisor regarding material to move or excavate.
  • Pushes levers and depresses pedals to move machine, to lower and push shovel into stockpiled material, to lower and dig shovel into surface of ground, and to lift, swing, and dump contents of shovel into truck or stockpile in a smooth, controlled manner.
  • Works with pipe on utility jobs.
  • Works safely inside trench box.
  • Works as needed on bridge jobs, moving or placing materials.
  • Observes markings on ground, hand signals, or grade stakes to remove material when operating machine at excavation or utility site.
  • Inspects, cleans, maintains, and lubricates equipment.
  • Works in a safe and responsible manner.
