About The Position

The Draw Bench Operator's primary responsibility is to operate the draw bench machine that draws down the diameter and thickness along with lengthening long pieces of copper tube. The draw bench operator processes 20,000 feet of finished copper tube through the machine per shift.

Requirements

  • Ability to stand on a raised platform.
  • Ability to stoop and reach to manually place tubes.
  • Ability to use a large pipe wrench.
  • Ability to use micrometers.
  • Ability to lift/push/pull up to 35 pounds.
  • Ability to use a large Allen wrench.
  • Ability to use pipe wrenches.
  • Ability to use a long rod.
  • Ability to keep working area clean and orderly.

Responsibilities

  • Operate the draw bench machine to draw down the diameter and thickness, and lengthen copper tube.
  • Process 20,000 feet of finished copper tube per shift.
  • Stand on a raised platform to operate push buttons and switches for the load rack, kicker, pusher, pinch rollers, roll over, and carriage of the draw bench machine.
  • Manually place tubes around the die for entry into the roll over tube.
  • Monitor the carriage to ensure the tail is properly attached before drawing begins.
  • Use a large pipe wrench to turn tubes to ensure the tail is inserted into the carriage.
  • Ensure the carriage drops finished tube into the finished stock bunk.
  • Use micrometers to inspect a sample of finished product at the beginning of the shift and document production.
  • Label finished product.
  • Lift/push/pull and use a pry bar to arrange stock material on the stock table.
  • Turn power off for changeover.
  • Use a large Allen wrench to change dies.
  • Use pipe wrenches to change plugs.
  • Use a long rod to assist the crane operator with removing straps from stock.
  • Keep the working area clean and orderly.
